Online Morissons via Amazon

I spent £52 on shopping, today. That's disgraceful. Barely got anything.

As some hopefully handy cash saving advice, you're likely paying an extra (at least 10%) buying from Amazon due to listing fees alone.

I don't know if Morrisons do online ordering through their website but you might be saving £5 by going that way.

Habit more than anything at this point. Being a prime user during the start of lockdown, it was all I could get! Everything else was "priority only" and as much as I AM on the priority list, all the damn sites wanted passport/photo ID, none of which I had.
Fucking shambles.
I've recently been doing bigger shops at Iceland, though. .. because Greggs Sausage Rolls!!

Aye, that's understandable, I don't know if they deliver to your area but I've found Tesco are pretty good value for doing an online food shop still, I'll use them every now and then for a full re-stock of gubbins. You just need to order in advance a bit as, well, you're not alone when it comes to habits from lockdown.

Heinz Ravioli 400g tin.

Tesco=£1.70
Sainsbury's=£1.40; they also do their own version - £0.95.
Iceland=£1.25. Strangely their half sized tin (200g) is £1.40.

There you go

You might pay a few quid for delivery, but you can save a fortune by shopping around.

Cool! That's surprising with Sainsburys and Iceland, in general they tend to be more expensive than most. I guess it's different when it comes to branded items.

The Morrisons delivery got here about an hour and an half after I ordered it, and the chicken went straight in the oven. It's now cool enough for chicken and stuffing barms come tea time, and there's enough barms for tomorrow dinner+tea, too. (Or maybe a curry tomorrow)
It's not a lot, but it's enough for me to do, whilst Mum's out buying clothes for the funeral. (She got a lovely long black coat, btw. Looks almost Matrix like!)

The ravioli's for another alone day once she's anway for a few days, which I'll have alongside some McCain's micro chips. Again, simple enough for me to turn on, sit down, mange.

Sometimes, it's not about shopping around, but instead just getting something simple in, and I know I'm not exactly budgeting well. That's what the bigger Iceland/Asda shops are for.
I'd LOVE to be able to do Aldi/Lidl shops, but ... :/

I still remember computer mags being 50p then suddenly shot up to 99p and then £1.50 and £2.00. I stopped buying them when they went up to about a fiver, robbing bastards!

This week's Ravioli Check (Done purely because that's the item that spawned this thread)

Morrisons, Amazon, Iceland, Asda, Tesco : £2.00
Sainsbury's : £1.70

Fuck, that shot up in the space of a couple of weeks..

Incidentally, I ate that tin of Ravioli last week, and it was completely bland, tasteless and shit. Nowhere near as nice as it used to be. They've "Less Sugar/Less Salt"ed that to death.

Avoid!!

Jeez. That's shit.

Maybe try an own-brand version next time? Might taste better. Maybe.

You might be able to work around it by adding sugar and salt to it before cooking? Kosher Salt is a good general salt but, if it works it works.

Case in point, I made some super delish butter last night with 200g of softened butter, 4 finely cut garlic cloves , a finely chopped chilli, some chopped parsley, and some salt.

Mix it all together in a bowl until smooshy, wrap insome plastic wrap and put in the fridge overnight, then bung it on pasta, veggies, meat, and it just, makes things taste nicer.

It adds a whole new dimension to some dishes with all the flavour it boosts up. I might have to try it with MSG next time instead of salt.

I've been using tons of pepper lately, especially in Pot Noodles. 'tis the season for some lovely pepper. I tend to to switch between chilli, pepper or salt, for weeks/months at a time!
But, yeah, if I do get another tin, there's a whole box of Degustabox-supplied Salt that can be thrown in with them

Me and Mum decided it's treat night, and we're having a takeout from the pizza place. The first order we've done from there, since about Feb.

2 Donar Kebabs, each with a bottle of Fanta. Mum has Onion rings, I have potato wedges.
It was dead on £13.00 last time we ordered it.
It's £20.47, today.

Good grief!!!

Yowch, that's expensive!

I had a 90p pepperoni pizza topped with some other pepperonis, with a garlic bread and a bunch of leaves fora total of ~ £2 when you add the oven cooking, coupled with most of a bottle of red wine for £4.60.

I felt like splashing the boat out a bit.
Slightly related, I cooked up my cinnamon raisin bread tonight, it's pretty good! The longer proofing time in the fridge really developed the flavours!

The recipe...errr

a good chunk of self raising flour
nice bit of cinnamon powder and brown sugar
lil bit of salt
smol amount of dried yeast, like 4 grams roughly
a handful of raisins

mix it up

add a lil bit of butter or marge, like, a couple of table spoons
add some slightly warm water and milk every now and then untll you have a thicc dough

mix it moar, like lots moar

cover it with plastic wrap, then leave it in the fridge overnight or, well I guess for almost a day if you like.

let it rest for an hour outside of the fridge.

bung into a tray that has been covered in baking parchment

bung in the oven at 200 centigrade for at least half an hour, give it a poke about after then and you'll kinda just know when it's ready.

turn out of the tray and, then... the toughest part.

leave it to rest for at least 30 minutes.

The deliciously sweet cinnamon smell will tempt you but DON'T

DO NOT GIVE IN

I believe in you!

Then and only then.

Cut a slice off and enjoy the delicious nyommage

The reason why I haven't placed any specific numbers throughout the recipe is that you just kinda feel your way through the process, although you want to guesstimate ~ 300g of flour. After you make your first one, you can just adjust the recipe to your choice, not sweet enough? add more sugar, not enough flavour, add more cinnamon powder and. or leave to proof for longer.

I'm genuinely amazed by the difference a longer proofing time makes with this one.
