Sure, as a little kid.
Not as an adult, though.

Question of the Day : March 16th

How do you approach game development for different retro systems?

Jayenkai
Nowadays the tools are aplenty, but back in the day I honestly didn't know where to even begin doing anything even slightly advanced on my Amstrad. I'd looked into a version of C (I want to say Borland, but.. I don't *think* it was Borland..?) but that only got me back to the very basic stuff, struggling to do even the simplest of tasks.. By comparison CPCs BASIC was quite powerful on its own, albeit slow.
It was more than enough for what I was capable of, and .. since I was only 7/8 at the time, that was good enough for me.

For gameboy, GBDK along with some tools for importing and exporting sprites that I made so I can have the convenience of Photoshop available to me. I did write some sort of deflemask to a lil sound engine in GBDK also.

For NES, NESASM3, Photoshop, then manually porting the tiles over into a separate program called YY-CHR, again, Deflemask to an ASM sound negine I've made, which still needs work on it.

Question of the Day : March 17th

What are those things you're too old to do but you still enjoy?
Fri, 17 Mar 2023, 02:37
Jayenkai
Spending stupid amounts of money on the latest games/tech, but then barely playing the games, and instead going back to coding after about 10 minutes of playing.

I've gotten much better at managing that in recent years, though. .. though that may be down to a lack of games that are interesting to me.

Question of the Day : March 18th

Do you want to change the world?
Sat, 18 Mar 2023, 00:57
Jayenkai
If you'd have asked me that about 5-10 years ago, I'd've said no. The world seemed to be working just fine.
But now..?
Oh boy.

I would change it for one that doesn't have warlords, dictatorship governments, fat cats and greedy bastard bankers.

That sounds so much like a Blimd Date question..

Cilla : Contestant number three?
No 3 : I would be an onion. Because it has so many layers.

How do you stay motivated when working on a project for a long time?
Tue, 21 Mar 2023, 01:05
Jayenkai
By making 100 other games in the meantime, and eventually abandoning the larger project because I never have the time for it.

I don't at the moment, hoping twitch streaming NES development will help in that regard.

Question of the Day : March 23rd

If the Star Trek Nemesis viewing wasn't a birthday based gathering of people, most of which were enjoying the film, I'd've been out of there in a shot.
