Cool, sounds like an identical story to mine but just different software being used.

I've had to pause development for a couple weeks on bee happy to concentrate on work and also the gameboy port of Flap Happy

I think I've decided what game #3 is going to be, just have to write up what it's going to have in detail.

Continuing from where I left off, the password screen now works pretty well, just needs to have err... a list of passwords and password checking in place, ha!

So, tings left to do:

Scoring System - Use Boost Bar when over the Hive to transfer more points (speed vs score gameplay)
5 points per flower - DONE!
10 points per boost bar tick deposited in the hive

Max Lives (9)
Level Completion
Level Transition
Password Confirmation + Effects
2 Player Mode (possibly add win condition based upon points in a round?)
2 Player VS Mode (Needs level select, vs ranking, win condition, eep)
Game Over - DONE!
More Levels (Ideally 32, different times of day with different blue skies every 8 levels)
Music
SFX
Pausing! - DONE!
Ending Credits
Debugging
Bird Movement Patterns
Adjust Spider Movements to target the player more

Making more plans to better organise myself, going to get the game loop all settled before I add anything fancy, then add sfx, music, ending and levels.

So far tonight the pause / unpause with working and there's most of the game over loop written, i may cheap out with a fade to black.

Ended up with a fade to black which worked nicely and with little ROM usage (yeah, that's already a thing)

20kb remains and most...most of the 1 player game loop is in place. I need to test on console at some point mind and there be glitches!

Tonight I hope to fix them up and maybe implement one of the easier passwords?

Sorted out the gameover transition last night, wasn't feeling it but at least something got done, gotta keep cracking on today when I get back home.

Don't push yourself too hard. You should be enjoying the fact that Flap Happy's preparing to flap away.

I wish I was but I've been pretty downbeat of late, not entirely sure why, might be the weather, etc, etc. Just been in a bit of a loop, I have decided to aim for getting at least the main game loop done by the end of the month which should be possible as it's kinda sorta nearly there-ish.

Having said that it actually looks like it's going to be a nice day out in the big blue room so I should take the opportunity this afternoon.

I think I'll bee happier when I feel a bit more financially secure also, the market has been tough of late.

Scoring is now there and the level ending condition is also in place, I think I've got a handle on handling separate levels, did some quick maths and 32 levels should fit in just over 4kb, which should bee manageable.

It's fun to see how much can be crammed into 32kb of code space Will hopefully get the level transitions sorted out tonight

thinking it should remove enemies left to right then any bkg tiles whilst the bee is doing a lil loop-de-loop

then display a password if available with press start to continue

then load in the next level.

which is easy in most languages , just a bit more in-depth with ASM

either way, a plan is forming!

I've decided to report the Gameboy version in GBDK2020 instead of ye olde GBDK as it looks like it has wayy more Super Gameboy Support than GBDK ever did. Which of course, I want to have available (borders, sounds, etc, etc, maybe even SNES ROM transfer as well, like the space invaders ROM, gotta hope big!)

Will test out their test roms to confirm on my super game boy tonight

|edit| Looks like SNES assembly language is pretty similar to NES assembly, which is, well, rather handy! |edit|

a few set backs tonight

snes is broken, so cannot test
gbdk2020 doesn't work on my lappy for some reason
pvsnes lib also doesn't work..

tried to use my old r36s to chill out instead
it's broken
flash the firmware
all the roms are gone now

it's a little late, lets get the gym offer sorted out now
it expires during the redemption process and gets cancelled

FFS...

SNES is off for an inspection today, hoping to get somewhere further with SNES Assembly this afternoon / evening after work. Hopefully a sprite on screen!

The super gameboy transfers data to the SNES in 4kb chunks and there's 64kb of space available to play with, so, creating a minimal ROM is probably a good idea to test things out on, as well as just the SNES itself (awaiting a flash cart from Aliexpress and, well, some good news hopefully)

The breakages continued throughout the week oh gosh

Someone rammed a shopping trolley into my front door on wednesday, thankfully nothing got broken, but, scary.
Thursday a drawer broke

Friday I find out my sons monitor has broken and I also broke down, unrelated to most of the breakages, mental health stuff that's been building up for a while, so I was off work on Friday. Oddly enough fitting a lock on my door will probably fix some of these issues I have, probably spurred on by other things, it's weird.

Saturday, took along one of my monitors so Triston could use it, but he needed an alternative cable... we got it and afaik he's all good again. We tried out a lil upgrade on his pc over here and it worked well which was good, saw a mate and we played Atari 2600 for a long time, which was great!

Today, started to recover some more mental stuff, took some action to head to B &Q, got a lock set, chisel, etc and begun installing and measuring up for the lock, i sadly do not have a drill but a mate does and he'll pop over hopefully this week to sort it out. Going to try to be a bit more social outside of work hours and try some local clubs out and see if anything works well for me, then return to the gym,

What does this have to do with Bee Happy? Well, that I'll be attempting to take some time away from coding as opposed to forcing it for a bit, I code pretty solidly for 5 days a week in the day job and I need to pay some more attention to non-coding things for a while.

Will still bee about on the forums of course but will be doing things more as to when I feel like coding something new in particular.

Probably a good idea to take a break from as much coding as you can. As much as it's a great outlet for creativity, it's not exactly the easiest way to shut down, mentally. In fact, it's pretty much the polar opposite.
Any time-out you can get is going to be helpful.
