Hello everybody.
Today we have an important issue.

The issue is Disk Encryption.

Every time the question of Disk Encryption emerges, my thoughts instinctively run to the man who used to live about 4 doors up.
He and his 2 young daughters lived peacefully in their house, until the day that their house was raided, and we all heard of his nasty collection of encrypted files.

This is the image that ALWAYS springs to my mind.

If, therefore, someone online asks me why I have encrypted data, I'll be sure to have a reason.
"Because I've written over 250 games, and would like them encrypted."
"Because that folder contains a batch of Pulp Rarities that I said I'd never upload."
"Because I started to write a novel, never finished it, but decided to leave the 2kb of text encrypted, just incase."

If it helps, I haven't actually got anything encrypted, because I know I've nothing to hide.

But like I said.. If asked, I know I've good reasons, and I will instantly spring to my defense, explaining why, and what exactly I'm trying to hide.

Because I have nothing to hide.

Scary..

But the threat of FBI Investigation amongst my users isn't what scares me.
D'you know what scares me?
DNA hasn't answered the question, and by hell he's freaking out about it.

That scares the fucking shit out of me.

So I'm going to say, politely.
DNA, it's time for you to leave.
Because whatever the fuck you're encrypting has no damn place on my forum.

Get the fuck out.

Because DNA has been a victim here in america more than once and in more than one city.

It's freaking the hell out of me.

I was just thinking about you Jay, me, I have to deal with it and go the authorities as I have in the past.

@Jay, I think you need to clarify that the 'spoiler' bit isn't you talking. When I first read it, I thought it was you who had written all that. |edit| Done |edit|

I don't think DNA is up to anything, and I don't think being interested in encryption equates to doing something illegal. However I believe he is far too paranoid.

Having lived with people suffering from long term mental illness, and knowing others with extreme paranoia (like believing they are the target of assassination), I have the impression that DNA is not very well.

Noel is a bit crazy... but I don't think he warrant the FBI's attention.

Then he's always like that?
I'll avoid him then.

Sorry jay

No, but I know someone who has 4 bolts on their front door, and insists on having them on all the time.

LOL, I admit I screwed my own windows, but never had 4 bolts on a front door. I like to know that I have a quick exit if a fire breaks out!.

I use full disk encryption because my government has no business going through my files. It's unlikely that I have incriminating files, but it's better not to even risk it.

I don't think we should be questioning why DNA wants it. It's none of our business. Publicly shaming our members is embarrassing to the community.

DNA needs to relax. If you really do have something worth hiding then you shouldn't be making a big deal about it. Being nervous about something is the quickest way to draw attention. Contacting the FBI is a joke. They literally do not give a fuck about this.

DNA The tainting of my food the tainting of my car more than once. People coming into a store or a restaurant and terrorizing me. My being harassed on the movie set and having my car tampered with while being in a library and more.

Take the time to send them his information. If I knew that he was in america, especially on the coast here where I am I would definitely consider it a small form of terrorism due to the years off problems that have been through.

You're not being terrorized DNA. Everyone has to deal with assholes. Food poisoning is quite common because of poorly handled food. People mess with other peoples cars all the time. My car has been messed with before. Nobody is out to get you. Just relax bro.

DNA: By now, I'm convinced that Cower has Schizophrenia, which is easy to explain if you've seen Gollum/Smeagol from Lord of The Rings. He also has it.
In Cower's case, it articulates itself as such: One moment, he's really nice, the next he's a really annoying person.
Part of the reason I don't hang in the chat anymore.

Stealth: You've got government-o-phobia.

That's not what schizophrenia is, nor do I have schizophrenia. What you perceive as annoying is what others perceive as being completely normal. Believe it or not, people behave differently depending on the context - if you think I'm being annoying, it's probably because I pointed something out and you went on the defense because it was counter to your opinion (which is often wrong).

dna is clearly paranoid and has some issues he needs to sort out. I avoided this thread because I didn't see any need to jump into what I consider a bunch of silly overreactions. dna overreacted to me simply asking questions and Jay overreacted to dna being stupid. However, if you're going to try to label me as having a medical condition that is a genuine problem for those with it, I suggest you at least try to figure out what schizophrenia is beforehand. As it stands, you've just made yourself look like an idiot and you've trivialized the problems of people suffering from schizophrenia (which is offensive). I suppose we can at least be grateful that you're consistent, Mats.

Smeagol doesn't have schizophrenia so much as dissociative identity disorder, but as far as I remember, Noel has never once complained about tricksy Hobbitses or killed his brother to get a "birthday present," which I think are diagnostic criteria under the DSM IV. On that note, I've also never seen him exhibit a single symptom of actual schizophrenia. "Being nice one moment and annoying the next" is usually indicative only of the human condition.

This is a lovely chain of overreaction that I wish I could somehow have been involved in. Maybe I can start making subtly creepy statements every now and again.

[ed] I want to make it clear that my goal was to plant the mental image of Cower saying "tricksy hobbitses," not to pick on Afr0 or anybody else. It just seems like it's been one of those off days; nothing that won't blow over in a few days or minutes.

I wasn't trying to label you so much as trying to point out what I perceive as a geniune problem. And I noticed that DNA had noticed the same thing, so I was trying to warn him.
I didn't "trivialize" anything, but apparently confused Schizophrenia with a "dissociative identity disorder". Believe me, I'm not the first one to do that.

Starting to consider the fact that I might have a mild schizophrenic condition. My memory appears to live completely disjointed lives.
Works fine 99% of the time. If I open a piece of code up, from 2000 (c:/JNK/OldJNK/College/Basic/) I can happily run through it, even if it's chaotic Jay-code state, and tweak where necessary.
That I remember.
But if I'm at work, I probably wouldn't even remember what folder that's in.

Memory A and Memory B (as well as C,D,E,F,G,etc) never seem to connect.
I even tend to forget who the hell people are sometimes, too, if I meet them outside of their regular scenario.
..

'tis troubling, but.. meh, whatever!

I don't think that's schizophrenia, Jay, it just sounds like having different mindsets for very different life situations, which is perfectly normal. Still, if you are worried about it, see a doctor. Self-diagnosis usually isn't healthy.

Afro Stealth: You've got government-o-phobia.

I do. It's easy to have a government loving opinion if you live in Norway. I live in the United States. Police are becoming increasingly invasive and our legal system has turned in to a game of "how many people can we incarcerate". We can be arrested for filming police officers. I was arrested once and the officer lied on the police report. It became irrefutable evidence against me because a police officer manipulated me in to saying things that would help the court convict me. I learned my lesson the hard way.

Afr0 dissociative identity disorder

This would be very apparent to Noel if he had it. Multiple personalities is a life impairing illness.

He just has a short temper with you and it doesn't take much to set him off. I've had plenty of long conversations with him and he has no signs of any mental disorder. You are very negatively confrontational when you talk to people (see your last few posts). People do not respond positively to that. I'm being negatively confrontational right now. You're probably getting irritated reading this post. You don't seem to be very accepting of other peoples ideas and beliefs. I also noticed that you do not respond well to criticism. Don't think I'm trying to upset you, I'm just being honest with you. If you take this in with an open mind then you'll be amazed with how much it will improve your life and your relationships with the people around you.

I recently had a friend tell me I was being a hypochondriac lately. He was right and I've been able to grow from that realization. Taking feedback in a positive matter is good unless that person is obviously trying to bully you.

@Jay: You're a programmer. Write some sort of spiffy organization package. Just type in which memory-set you're currently on, and it will let you remember things you're forgetting.
