I know Gfk has picked a cool remake, so I'm all over that. A def purchase for me.

For me my business is taking all my time, but in a galaxy far far away my computer language will rule them all!! Haha. Yeah I know

Tidying up my Mini Ludum Dare Entry to push out to Android, etc as a freebie game. Then finish my port of Invasion VS shortly afterwards for mobile phones, again as a free game, possibly with adverts or something.

Gfk: Re static IP. If your ISP can't offer you one (good luck in that regard as almost all UK ISP's don't offer them now) then there's a few alternatives. The only one I've had success with though is to provide Sony with the IP address to my dedicated server. You can get a pretty cheap dedi server now - just run Linux and then Squid to create a proxy. Then point your browsers at the proxy address. Job done

As for me, I'm just getting over a bad hump with day job - lots and lots of hours. I'm knackered.

Aside from that, I'm still working on a PSVita/PS3 game with Rob Fearon, and continuing my oddball path to build my very own 65C02 based home computer

I used to use DynDNS to link jnk.homedns.org to my home server, and ran a little proggy on it to keep it up to date. (I *think* I got the proggy directly from DynDNS..!?)

I no longer have a home server

I may have a tinker with a home server at some point, is DynDNS cheap to do?

Free!
.. or at least, it was a decade ago, when I started using it!!
I think the current rule is, you need to visit the site and log in once a month (eg so they can bombard you with adverts, and you're not just "using" them!!!)

Oh.. It's not free anymore.. Sorry

I'm sure there's something else that does the same job. Haven't looked in years!!!

DynDNS won't work as you must apply Sony with an IP address. The dynamic DNS services only supply you a host name.

You can get a static ip address on most places but...you need to be on business broadband, and it's an additional charge. I know virgin media offer it for sure though.

Wow! It's cheaper to go for Nintendo in that case! As in at most 10% of the price for Sony.

Maybe look into talking to publishers perhaps instead for Sony?

Gawd. You'd need a Kickstarter just to *begin* development.

"Guess I won't be going the Vita/PS route after all. To release on all platforms I apparently have to hand over the not-trivial sum of $35,000 to Sony."

Nonsense. Who are you talking to? You can develop for free - Sony send you loaner kits for no pennies at all.

Well, I can tell you from first-hand experience (I'm a registered Sony developer with both PSVita and PS3 DevKits - loaned to me at zero cost) that you do not need such a budget.

If you are serious about publishing a game on a console then you should read Rob's post here:

linkage

Once you're all signed up to Sony then you will have an account manager assigned to you. They will help you through the whole process and provide you with the necessary hardware and licenses. For Unity and GameMaker you simply request a license from the Sony DevNet site once you're all signed up.

It's a pretty painless process, but can take a little time to set up (NDA agreements, access etc).

If you have any questions then feel free to ask. I am under the Sony NDA so have to be careful about what information I do give away, but will try my best.

Re: Static IP.

- Good luck finding an ISP that offers one! Nightmare
- Business supplied static ISP: Expensive, most ISP's won't supply to residential addresses, generally crap speeds
- IP address supplied by Virgin tends to remain unchanged for a long while. When it does eventually change then e-mail Sony and ask them to update it.
- DynDNS is no use as you only have a hostname. Sony want a static IP address
- VPN services. Most of these Sony won't allow
- Dedicated Server. A dedicated server will get you the necessary fixed IP. You then run Squid Proxy Server on a Linux installation and point your browser to that (after supplying the IP to Sony). This is the option I chose and works perfectly.

Re: Dedi Server. It's not as costly as you think. Keep an eye on:

robot.your-server.de/order/market

You don't need a meaty machine - just something simple. You can get some pretty good bargains on there - and it's a lot cheaper than a business line!

If you're with Virgin then I'd just supply your IP address that you have with them. At least keep an eye on it for next few weeks to see if it changes - if at all.

Yeah, my Virgin IP rarely changes.. But it sometimes does, so keep an eye on it!
Also, not all Virgin networks work the same, so be wary. Remember that the UK Cable network is an amalgamation of many different originating networks. Virgin have done their best to make it all work nicely together, but... Quirks and shit!!
