I have a $20 keyboard from Logitech that I've been using for years. Even with the engine oil, it's never stopped working (thinking about it, the oil probably lubr*snip*

If you're worried about XP not liking being carted around between different computers, don't worry about it. I keep WinXP on my external hard drive, so I can take the drive out and put in a computer if I need to. Most complaints I've ever had are about vid*snip*

There is no way of doing it in standard C. You'll have to use an external library.
Microsoft has a TCP/IP library to use. There's also a POSIX sockets library (also TCP/IP, afaik). I don't know the exact name of either of these, because I've never tried d*snip*

I use MacOS X most of the time, and I'm pretty happy doing that.
