J5 2016 just updated to Android 7. Bit unexpected but it runs faster than Android 6!

I imagine that may be to do with Meltdown and Spectre.
With any luck, a lot more manufacturers will be struggling to get fixes out, and end up upgrading devices as they do.

Perhaps this'll be the big push to update that Android's needed for a long time?

I have a older android phone. 3 years old now I think. I understand that with android phones no more updates are given after 2 years. Making it a dead device.

I wasn't expecting an upgrade to Android 7, ever. It isn't the most hi-spec phone anyway (I'm done with that shit!).

There's been a few Android 6 patches over the last year or so, but nothing major. Hadn't even considered the Spectre/Meltdown issue to be honest. If somebody wants to steal one of my half-dozen or so stored phone numbers, or photos of the cat, then knock yourself out!

I tend to do my banking on my iphone. Not because I think it's "secure", but because I know what shit can run on Windows without me knowing about it.
But then I also run it "stock".. no jailbreak, no add-on keyboard, no browser addons. Just plain and as-is, and as (hopefully) as secure as I can keep it.

But then, my elder sister also does her banking on her phone. And I know what shite she installs!!!

The thing with Android phones is that if the manufacturer updates it you won't buy a new one so they do only a minimal amount of updating to try and look like they support their product.

My Android phone (Elephone P900) won't even accept the manufacturer's updates. I've had it for a year+ now and pretty much every other day for teh last six it bugs me every to install a minimal update. Every time I tried, it failed. I just swipe the update away now.

How'd you get a 7 update on a j5? Mine says 6 is as high as I can go 🤔
