Socoder -> Film + TV -> Ads vs Shows

Is it me, or are tv programmes just getting in the way of the adverts nowadays?

But the adverts are shit, nowadays. It's not like the 80s when we had Shake'n'Vac and Hamlet adverts to keep us entertained.
Nowadays, they're either depressing music to advertise a shop, or annoying "fun" characters that annoy the shit out of you.

Cream egg ads annoy me. They make no sense at all. And not just because its still January.

What I meant Jay, is that there are so many more ads nowadays - not that I prefer the ads. Both before, during and after shows the ad breaks are seeming to get longer.

Tele is crap full stop... I was reading the paper this morning, and got to the TV bit, and having a scan through... There wasnt one single thing that interested me.

And adverts... Honest to fucking god... I mean look at this:-

View on YouTube

What the fuck (pardon my french) is going on there, some ripped ponce prancing about (Probably drinks fruit flavoured drinks for ladies... Like Dave!) like he's practising the Bellendina or whatever it was Torvil and Dean did!

That didnt make me want to sell my house, in fact, quite the opposite... I would gladly rip down the place so I could use the bricks to pepper the knob who devised "Super National Homebuyers Man"... Cos he's shite!!!

And then you have MacDonalds using child bereavement to sell burgers:-

You cannot get any lower then that mind!

And to top my hate filled rant... Shite companies that put adverts out as if they are git canny and that... Yes, I'm looking at you TalkTalk, amongst many... And banks... Adverts for banks...

"We do more for our customer, then any other bank... If more is give you fuck all and close our branches within 50 miles of where you live"

Dabz

PS I didnt really think I hated TV so much, but, yeah, I do really... Apart from Sky Sports, I like that!

There seems to be a new tend in ads too, even after watching them you haven't got a fucking clue what they are trying to sell, or they do a switch-aroo at the end, where it looks like it's selling one thing and then it's something completely different. Why do that?

I rarely watch tv - I download pretty much everything, but when I do - I fucking hate the ads!

except all the adverts for Life Insurance

"Hi, I'm Michael Parkinson, are you sitting on your couch, worried about how your loved ones will afford your funeral? Not that they give much of a shit anymore, they never call, or visit, even Christmas cards have dropped off... But still, you do give a shit, so let my smooth silky, I'm your best mate voice try and tempt you into an over 50's plan. From just £4 a month for the rest of your life, you'll know you'll be able to give your ungrateful loved ones peace of mind when they are burying you in the ground, this will be short lived... Because while they are expecting thousands, we can guarantee you their jaws will drop when we give them a cheque for a few hundred, tops... So, ring us now, and for just enquiring, we'll give you a cheap arsed pen, which, you can use to sign our forms, then stab yourself in the eyes when someone points out we're nothing but a big scam... So call now!"

Sky News pisses me off. If it isn't that smarmy fucker on the Gladstone Brooks PPI ad it's.... "Umjaliwar is only 3 months old and has to walk 5 miles a day for water with turds floating in it. Please give £3 a month so she can have flip flops".

Then it's sponsor a child, sponsor a snow leopard, sponsor a tiger, sponsor a panda, sponsor a donkey, sponsor a guide dog.... fucks sake. Beg beg beg.

Yeah, the begging ones are a bit naff... Though, I did nearly sign up for the donkey one mind, broke my heart that one... I love donkeys, they come a close second to dogs for me!

No F1 on, so, no TV for me until March.

It really is the only thing that I still watch on the telly. that and very rarely some game show stuff on Challenge.

But yeah, crunchyroll, netflix, youtube, twitch and amazon prime have the whole family covered really.

Oh, and here's another thing... When I was in Paris, I had a selection of English TV channels in my hotel room, there was obviously other languages, from German through to Arabic... But the usual ones was the likes of the BBC, ITV etc... Basically, the most popular free to air ones.

Anyway, the rare time I was in the hotel, mostly to sleep or get changed, and I had the tele on.... Everything was a sodding repeat, like, everytime I turned it on... Morecambe & Wise was on there as well... And, there's a thing, why do they like to put WW2 films on on at Christmas... Like, it's supposed to be "Goodwill to all men" setup innit... So what do our broadcasters do... Shove on films where blokes are shooting each other!?! I've never quite worked that one out.

Americans or other English speakers in the hotel must think "Blimey, them limeys dont half watch some shit!"... I bet the TV in North Korea is better then our f***er [pardon my french]!

Browsing through other foreign channels, they had recent movies playing, obviously dubbed over, but still, blockbuster films, what do we get... Fucking Toy Story and Where Eagles Whatsit, with two dead comedians chucked in for good measure!

Going off the Christmas Speshuls, I watched Mrs Browns Boys on iPlayer when I got back, but, once you've seen one episode of that, you've seen the setup, and I found it a bit boring.. Then I watched Frankie Boyles New World Order thingy, again, once you've seen Frankie Boyle a few times, you lose that "shock" value he relies on.

I think the only thing I saw over Christmas, which I enjoyed and watched a few episodes all the way through was Blue Planet II... I'll give the BBC their due, them and Attenbrough make a quality documentary series... Still not worth the £147 license fee though, and it had nowt to do with Christmas!

BBC2 are buggers for carping on about the war, especially at Christmas. Might be a pain that every channel is showing stuff you've seen 20 times before but it still trumps BBC2 rubbish like "Tales from the Trenches" or "My Life in the Somme". Which is about as festive as BBC2 gets.

TBF BBC1's "Doctor Who" Christmas Special wasn't set in the war...Oh. OK. As you were...

I had to write a company a letter to unsubscribe from the television. Did that 10 years ago. Saved me 2000 euro's since then I think. I switched to adsl Internet so there was no more obligation for television to get internet through cable.

Bill Gates was quoted recently that in a not to distance future tv ads wil be adressed. So you get personalised ads based on every info they got on you. Seeing how good the adds on the internet are that wil not be such a great improvement. I have also been pressing a lot of dislike buttons on the ads on youtube. I am not getting that option anymore the last week or so,

I love how you buy something from Amazon, or whereever... And then for ages the same product pops up in little ads everywhere!

I know it's all based on past browsing information, but I like how they use it to sell me stuff I already have, complete waste of time innit!
