The Big C

My stepfather was in the hostpital a lot in the last month or so. He had a gal blather infection and this was removed. He stayed sick and had a scan yesterday. Today the results were in. There were spots on his lungue and my mother told me it already spread through his body.

I am not sure what wil happen next. I hope he wil get better but I am not sure he wil.

Well, yesterday we found out he has been given up on. One week after the doctors finding the cancer. My mother has been visiting every day from morning to late in the evening. She is getting him home for the last period. He has maybe a couple of weeks but it can happen any day. My mother said he might not be able to speak anymore today(cancer going to the brain) but I just spoke to him on the phone.

This is only the third family member I am loosing in my life. My grandfather I barely knew( I was young), my grandmother a lot better. My stepfather I knew a lot better since I am disabled, as he is aswel so I was at their place almost every day since 2011.

My father died of cancer when I was 18yrs old. I helped my brother and my sister through it along with my mum. Sadly, a strong 18yr old lad has to fail at some point and I really went pear-shaped. Make sure everybody takes care of each other and watch for those that might seem OK at first. I ended up with PTSD for a VERY long time. Today, there's more charities that will help you through it and I thoroughly recommend that you and family seek them out.

Take care chap and really really sorry to hear the news.

My mother said she was going to get help from social services to deal with it all. They should know how to get things done. The hospital has a person for helping with getting a patient home and enabling every thing needed(neighboorhood nursing etc) Also my stepfather and his stepmother bought of their funeral insurance a couple of years ago so that is going to be a challenge getting the grave and stone and service done, but I have a lot of savings so can help with that. His stepmother died earlier this year also.

I am taking care of the pets and doing the shopping and cooking and cleaning. Today the washing machine at my parents really! flooded their kitchen. I can not see the problem since the water is coming from behind the kitchen closets(sewer drain?) We need to get that fixed also. I used a couple of bottles of that unstopper but it has not helped.

It is going to be a while before things are to a more normal state here.

My stepfather past away It went all very fast. Tomorow begins the whole road of taking care of things. I found a checklist of the government that will be of use.

The finances are close to finished now. The tax debt has been wiped since my mother did not have the income to be able to get by if this was still needed to be payed off. She now has the full senior income(aow in the netherlands) and gets the required subsidies for healtcare and rent.
She wil have to spend carefully but it should be possible now.

It was a blow and it went so fast. But I think we can get on now.

Today me and my mum are going on a taxi trip. 2x2 hours.

My stepfathers brother in law died from the same thing. He got cancer only a few months after my stepfather died from it. They were able to prolong his life for a time, but it was sure he would die. He had the same age(49)

In a couple of hours the taxi wil arive. I can not use any device in a car as I get car sick unless I look outside. Some taxi's have Wifi. Maybe I can check a few minutes at a time though.

My stepfathers sister has a yachtharbor and they are using a building there to have the remembrance/respects meeting.

It wil be after 4pm that we wil be back.
