Have resorted to only the floofiest of onesies over here so far. Also, recording my gas usage to see how far £5 will get me.

We had it on for about an hour yesterday, and it used around £1.06, or thereabouts.
A fiver's not gonna get you much. Use sparingly!

Also boiling the kettle's gone up from 88p to £1.20
Aargh!!!

10 minutes for a shower and that's been it so far, oddly my boiler only likes having heating and hot water at the same time if i'm showering so I've been careful with it, that and a quick switch in for doing the dishes on friday. I'll see how far it goes I guess, I can always shower at the gym instead.

I've got the Nest scheduled for low temperatures and it's getting cold enough for the heating to come on, in the mornings mostly.

No, it's take a quid if it were on for a whole hour. Luckily it's only about 2 or 3 mins.

I was updating a older laptop. This one stil had that old hdd. I had to have it on for around 2 days before everything was updated.
With just updating the power usage is not very high. But with the current price it does start to cost money.

Next month there is a extra rise in price for me. 81 cents per kwh and 2.5 for gas. I think I correctly calculated the modems to use around 9kwh per month. 13 watts constant.
There were some problems years ago when I turned those off and rebooted. So I always keep them on when I am away. Maybe I can try to turn them off again to save a good amount of money every year.

Was tempted to bung it on last night but am determined to hold off until November, just need to wrap my lovelies up in some floofy onesies for warmer snuggles I think

If of any use for my uk chums. Octopus have put their calculator back up again, with the UK price guarantee prices in place. This gives an idea of what my energy usage for the next 12 months could cost.

From December to February, it thinks on my past usage, last 5 years weather data for my region, and next 24 day weather prediction, that my combined energy bill will be between £400 and £475 per month. Most of that being the gas cost for heating. After that it predicts it will fall to less than £200 per month.

Playing with the DD payments figures, if I pay £260 a month I will break even in 12 months time. I am currently in credit on my account by a couple of hundred £ .

So what does this mean?

My monthly bill is just over double what I was paying last year. This is much better than the rate we would have got without the guarantee that would have been five times last years monthly payment to cover it!

While everyone's circumstances will be different, based on my estimates you could expect your DD payments to need to be about double what they were last october if you use a similar amount of energy through the next 12 months, to be sure for your balance the level out.

I've had some weirdness with EON of late, they cancelled off my direct debits without any warning which was pretty strange, so i manually re-instated them at a higher amount than before, just so i can ease-out the period. I was in credit by ~£300 yesterday then, despite no changes being indicated on my account, it went down to £80 but without any indication of payments being taken from the account, very odd. still £80 in credit but it feels like they're doing something funky.

My £5 of gas still hasn't ran out since Friday the 7th so, that's good I guess.

Holy hell.
We've been moved from SSE to Ovo energy, over the course of the past month or so. New site, new stats, but thankfully the old account data is still there.
Even still, the SSE site gave the data in a different way than the Ovo site, so it's tricky to follow..
At the most basic, I can see it's costing us about £2.20 or thereabouts per day for Gas and Electric combined.
Except on the 10th when it's leapt up to £3.odd instead.
It was the 9th when we had the heating on for an hour, but it's definitely showing up on the 10th's stats, there, so.. a day behind, but at least I can see it, and can figure out why it's higher.
Good to know..

Yours is staggeringly high, in comparison, but then you've a whole decent sized family there, right? All those kettle boils soon add up Here it's just me and Mum. And we're both cheapskates!

I may have to enquire about a smart meter perhaps to get better data for myself, it'd be interesting to see which days rack up more on both sides of things.

Yea, imagine 4x jayenkai's all using computers and boiling kettles, all living in an old 1920's house that is insulated as much as it can be.

You can see why I've not shut up about the potential costs. The calculator still shows what the energy cost would have been without the guarantee ... a crazy £1100 estimate for January. So £475 is better, but still makes me sick.

That said we're cutting back so hopefully not costing £475 in January, will have to wait and see.

So a month on, had to have the heating on due to health and an old house with outside walls were suffering. Daily cost of gas is going up... £8 per day as of today for family of 4.

Yikes!!
Ours is still relatively low.
We've been doing half hour heating sessions, but it's going from one morning, one afternoon, to.. A few half-hours at different periods during the day.
Good grief, it's getting cold.

Last year the temperature did not go below 16 celcius as far as I could tell. The heater had not been on for the entire year. I'm used to wearing body warmers and using blankets when seated.

When it froze this week, it stayed above 16.5 Celsius. I have used maybe 1 or 2 cubes of gas in a year. (B energy label home)

I'm showering and cooking at my mums place. Having the pre crisis very cheap energy contract that lasts until januari 2024.

Here, what has been going up alarmingly is our water bill.

To keep the pipes for said water from freezing in the cold weather, I put four 40 watt lights under the house in reflector bases, so they are pointing at the pipes. I also put a wireless remote thermometer under there so I can monitor the temp of the air around the pipes. The air has been staying a steady 80F even when well below freezing.

Worried about the extra energy increase due to these 160 watts of light that will be on a good bit over the next few months...

Our heat for the house is gas, and even set on "1" it keeps the house very comfy, on "3" it is way too hot in here. So, we do save on gas as it stays on "1" or "2".

Have had the gas heating on a couple of times over the last week although my lil fan heater has been doing a superb job of heating just one room, then having a cuppa tea after switching it off

Glad I made snuggly leggings for Sarah as she's now nice and warm to snuggle up to.

Over on the other side of the world, we are seeing prices only just starting to increase both in the grocery bills and energy costs. It is meant to really hit us next year...

We invested in updating our solar array from a small 1.5KW system which over ten years ago basically cleared electric bill every quarter, but as prices increased we were back to paying the same amount... 2 years and half years ago we updated to a 6.6KW array with a Tesla Power-wall battery (the inverter is capped at 5KW).

It costed a bomb to do, but I'm glad we did it as our household (just the 2 of us) normally only use less than 20kWh a day (on average over a year it's only approx 14kWh).

Since we are in "spring" here (it's been a wild, wet one too), but yesterday we had a nice sunny day and the panels generated over 42kWh over the day
