HTML5 output only (in demo version).

Some nice demos, but impossible to judge the true speed of Monkey in HTML.

Also impossible to judge how cross-platform it really is.

Has audio, but is a bit messed up on my Mac/Chrome combo. (Only playing one sound at a time... The bg audio stops as soon as you trot.)

I'm on the Mac right now, so can't do Firefox/IE tests with it. DD, care to give 'em a whirl?

I'm currently in a "What to do about JNKPlat 2011" mindset. I made one in April last year, and it's kinda that time of year to start thinking about it.
If this DOES do what it's supposed to, then it might be worth looking at.
But.. .. *sigh* I don't think that's enough time, to be honest.

It's something fun to play with.
But it's not as compact as DD's PMC.
If all you're doing is HTML stuff, go do it in there.
(DD, read the subtext )

This looks pretty cool. Gives you a very easy entry point to develop on all these platforms. The price tag is a bit high, but if it compiles cleanly to all these platforms then it's definitely worth it.

What's the scoop on AppStore stuff? Still has to be compiled on a Mac? Jay?

For that matter, does each platform Monkey supports need to be compiled ON those platforms? I recall Sibly leaning in that direction.

All the raw, animal magnetism of a rutabaga.

iPhone programs always need to be compiled in XCode on a mac. Not much you can do about that.

@Jay. You need to make JNKPlat2011 revolutionary. Make holograms pop out of the screen or something. Do something exciting.

I think it's because xcode preforms some crucial digital signing.

Now that you mention it, you're right. It wasn't easy to get my app onto my iPhone. You must do all sorts of not-so-exciting stuff.

That's an understatement and a half. And then getting it up to Apple is more fun on top.

Do you think Apple did everything they could to piss off developers and make the whole process as difficult as possible? The whole Apple thing just sucks balls.

Back on topic - I thought Monkey was going to be free, but MOJO was the paid for part? That's what was originally touted on the Blitz forum. $120 is still pretty good value, but GLBasic does all that (except HTML) and a load more with 3D for much less. If I still only used BMax I'd be sorely tempted to swing with Monkey though.

Oh yeah.. GLBasic again.. .. One day I'll manage to remember that GLBasic exists!

Chrome : Fine
Firefox : Slow
IE : Didn't run.

So, pretty much identical to PMC, then!

This one don't though www.dragonfiresdk.com/

You just use their Build Center and it gets compiled on a Mac on their server, then gets sent back to you. One big downside though, no free version so you can't try before you buy!.

Also... Then Game Creators (AKA DarkBASIC Software) are bringing there package out around April. appgamekit.com/

... and here is the PMC version I've just knocked up (if we had a PMC BB tag then I could have embedded it : ( ).

I'm upstairs on the Mac now.
Yesterday's work was done on the PC downstairs.

I've noticed that my math was 1 point off, yesterday. The floor is moving quicker than the spikes, and the bottom-most sky is the one moving at the same rate as the spikes.
It should actually be the floor that's the same rate..

If this were PMC, I could click "edit", tweak it, save, job done.
If I want to do this, as is, I have to install monkey, use the thumbdrive to access the code, tweak, build, then find an FTP proggy on the Mac to upload it all over again.
..
true, if I already installed Monkey, and had the FTP proggy on here, that'd be less of a hassle.
But.. For Mr Lazy-itis, PMC's a buttload quicker!

I'm still really tempted. iOS/Android/Win/Mac/Linux/Browser, all without pissing about, and all quite Blitz-esque. squeeeee!!

Because you don't actually use the canvas or JS directly both me and my brother are thinking of going down the same route as Monkey and all the other alternatives, only through various players on those platforms. Like a 360 player on the community channel.

As long as I can still do swirly crazy "left on the buffer" stuff with PMC, then tweak away.
Use Gravity Pods as a test bed, and be sure it can still do that!

*sound's more important right now, though! Just gimme that and I'll do you a Plat..

We've been coding pretty much all day since friday on new site features. These are mainly the really needed ones that actually make the site usable from a user perspective, and give it more then just an IDE and a player.

Some of the larger bits are done and will be live as soon as some smaller sections are complete. It all looks quite nice too!

Jay, That's just some extra parallax in the app. *wink*

Given the price of Monkey ($120) you could also buy several excellent books on iPhone or C++ development and just develop stuff properly using more mature tools.

Or use this, build a new framework, and then write AGameAWeek for Windows, Mac, Linux, Browser, iOS, Android, WindowsPhone7 and XBox.
!?
