What makes a LCD screen flicker?

mindstorm8191	I've started to notice something about my monitor lately. If I look very closely at the screen, I can see variances in the colors in different places. Its usually on very dark or multi-tone grey areas that I notice it. Its not like a texture-style static color shift, sharp points don't wobble at all. Its kind of a rapid moving haze, of sorts, in different places. I would half expect this sort of variance if it were a CRT monitor, but it isn't. Does anyone know what it could be? My guess is its either the graphics card doing it, or the monitor's conversion process (what sort of data travels to the monitor, anyway?), but I don't know. JL235	It could be the power, although it more affects CRTs. Is it on a shared power supply? If so then try running it on it's own. It might also be just cos the refresh rate is too low. People can notice flickering on 60hz monitors when they get used to them and especially if they use monitors with a higher refresh rate. Try raising it.

flying_cucco	Sounds like you are out of Phase. Do you see lines or patterns moving up/down the screen on a grey area, and flickering on a checkered area? Use your monitors' calibration to fix it, under "image settings" or similar. On mine this is a little [~] sine wave icon.

steve_ancell	It happened to mine once. It turned out that the power cord just needed moving in and out a few times. I'ts never done it since.

This used to be a problem on CRT monitors, but should not affect LCD monitors at all. LCDs instead have problems with slow response, causing motion blur. Newer ones are much improved, I don't notice it (while CRT monitors and TV always gave me a headache).
