#160 - The Black and White Challenge

Stop! It's monochrome time!!!

The Challenge

Create a game using only 0,0,0 and 255,255,255!

The Time

Wed 16th July -> 23rd July, 2008
You have until this timer hits zero to complete your entry. For the record, that's Tue/Wed, midnight GMT.

The Rules

You're free to reuse functions here and there, if it helps speed up your dev-time. Old art and audio, are pretty much expected, since we don't all have time to create fully working masterpieces within the space of a week!

Other than that, the main coding for each week's task should be pretty much created within the time allocated.

If you use other people's art/sound/functions, give credit where credit's due.
To enter, post your game below. If you can't find anywhere decent to host it, send it to Jayenkai@Gmail.com

Additional rules are available here.

Last Week

Last week, there were no entries..

A 'game'?
Does that include server software?

...And we're not allowed to use anti-aliasing, I suppose?

Um.. ok, sure, but only if for that purpose!

Actually, I decided to skip anti-aliasing. This will be my first WW entry which isn't half-assed -- be excited.

Joe (3 mb)

Took me a long time to make - so don't stop until you've beaten the boss and seen the ending dialog There is probably a bug or two in there, but no one's perfect.

The down arrow key does not work so I cant get across that gap.

It does work. I updated the game to be less confusing in that room.

As confusing as it is, this is one of the nicest games I've played in a long time!
It's beautiful!

Its like playing a Black and White Orisinal game!

Tikihead, try downloading this file, and replace the old Joe.exe with it. If that doesn't work then there's nothing I can do. Jay had the same problem and I really don't know what's causing it.

OK, I may knock up a quick game but I'm put off by the quality already posted

Joe... brilliantly simple but effective. What's the deal with the key, diamond and cloud? I got to the end without seeing them... then saw them as I browsed the image files

Monoblast... seriously, if you can make it without the scrolling bars it might be playable I like what I could see but I really couldn't stay with it for 10 seconds

Snake... a real smoothy... just missing one thing... any kind of score

Damn.

I accidentally uploaded the debug version in which you don't need to collect the items! I'll correct...

Joe is a very good game for its simplistics. It captures everything that a basic decent game needs to be considered good and keeps it simple at the same time.

Oh and snake does do a score. You just dont see it till the end of the game. You get 1 point for each 0 you get.

So it does! I had so much on the screen I didn't notice it
I was expecting during the game so when it wasn't there I wasn't really looking at the end. My bad.

On the other end of the monochromatic spectrum (not sure that pun really worked...)

I started this waaaaaay too late to do anything beyond a seed of an idea but here it is. The graphics are thrown together roughly and it's all very stodgy but...

Posty

It's inspired by a very early type-in-from-a-magazine game on the Spectrum way back when black and white wasn't such a challenge. I don't actually remember the game particularly so this is just what I came up with quickly.

You play a postman, pick up the sack and then gather all the scattered letters before moving to the finish. It's a lame platformer but it's my first platformer and I think I might just run with it now...
