Socoder -> Off Topic -> Why are almost all of the files on limewire viruses?

As some of you may have seen on my Blog, limewire is not good. 100% of the files I downloaded off it are viruses (All are now removed thanks to Norton Auto Protect (An Integral part of Norton Systemworks)) Obviously I highly reccomend that you do not use limewire without antivirus software, and scan all software downloaded (Not necessary if you have Norton auto protect like me).

But why are almost all of the files on Limewire viruses?
Can't they do something useful, and atleast evrything should be filtered by limewire. In the mean time, I'm off to get the latest version of Norton (as my subscription runs out in a month) and for eeveryone's information mpFirewall.sys has recently caused an error in my computer, my best guess in tht it stands for MCcAFFE Personal Firewall. And by error, I mean BLUE SCREEN OF DOOM.

Something along these line:

Windows has been shut down to protect your computer .......
Files of problem identified in the error message below........
Error Message:
MpFirewall.sys ........

Because "Typical Users" use Limewire, and "Typical Users" don't check for viruses. It's a really easy way to get 1,000 spam proggies onto some idiot's PC without them even realising.

Jay's top tip.
Don't ever use P2P search type programs, and I'm not saying this in a "I'm the Mod, No warezes" type way. I'm saying it in a "I'm sick to death of having to fix all these PC's" way.
DON'T do it..
If you want to use anything, stick to BitTorrent. And even then, stay away from Warez.

And if you were stupid enough to downloaded any sort of "Warezed Virus Protection" do yourself a favour and format NOW.. Don't even trust the Uninstall.
Get rid, start afresh.

AVG is free and it works.
No P2P.
BitTorrent at the most.

Keep your system clean, and your system will keep clean.

I've already posted this before, but peer guardian is a good tool that you should use in addition to a firewall & anti-virus protection. It blocks known bad ip's and sites; in addition you can also block government/educational ip addresses if you're paranoid. p2p is bad - I never use it; so i use peer guardian like it was a condom -- better you have it and don't need it than not have it and wished you did.
