Not sure what it is...

15th December 2011

Probably a type bug. Your using a non-number somewhere involved with the calculation.
Personally I've never liked those 'page took x' things, so I'd just remove it, or hard code in '0.2 seconds' so it always looks fast.

Blitz 3D math source

6th December 2011

10 million isn't that strange of a choice. Due to the way that floating point numbers work, there is a limit on the smallest number you can add, and this is based on the size of the floating point number. For example 10000000000000000.0 + 1.0 is 1000000000*snip*

Blitz 3D math source

Cower's point is that the maths library is only one small section, and it's quite generic. Pretty much any other 3D engine will have similar (for example PMC has it's own for the 2D gfx engine).

Try out Windows Metro on your Phone

4th December 2011

That's partly because the Android browser is clunky and buggy. If you run it on the iPhone, it's lovely and smooth.

for iPhone/Android users, you can actually try out Windows Phone here Linkage

more drawing

1st December 2011

I have started drawing again.

I'm going to try and draw something every day (or every other) to improve my skills further. I really want to get good enough to do produce good game graphics.

Half Life Origins

29th November 2011

Plus I think a lot of game franchises, namely Half Life and Deus Ex, would work better as high-budget TV series then as films.

Half Life Origins

29th November 2011

For once, I agree with Afr0. But there are a few exceptions:
Pokemon was originally a game, and the cartoon is one of the best cartoons of my childhood, and the films were pretty good too.
Final Fantasy The Spirits Within was ok, but Advent Children was *snip*

Monkey thoughts...?

27th November 2011
No, it doesn't. The features are there, you can utilize them by modifying the C++ output.
That pretty much defeats the point of Monkey. You might as well just write it in C++ anyway.

PMC's Banhammer!

24th November 2011

today we banned our first PMC user! Wen’t through all the hassle of doing it via the DB, altering this and that, then noticed I already had a ’disable’ option built into the site, doh!

I agree with Nick... er, sorry, I meant Spinal.
Can we have at least one topic which is non-political?

Thanks for the feedback, and you could certainly build a proper pacman clone on PMC.

PlayMyCode - Sand

23rd November 2011

I have thought of maybe making a tutorial about it, going through step by step, as it was surprisingly easy to build (much shorter then I had expected).

Java Applet not painting

21st November 2011

As far as I can tell, the ImageObserver is a callback for when graphics needs to be drawn asynchronously. I'm guessing this is for times when the graphics stack is separated out from the main program a little, or when images are drawn incrementally. Having*snip*

Monkey thoughts...?

21st November 2011

I've not used Monkey, but I have sifted through the JS output on some games, and wasn't too impressed.
Lots of advanced features are not being used, and lots of functionality are built in the easiest but inefficient way (for example it's image tint code c*snip*

PMC Artbox

10th November 2011

No, it uses 32-bit colour.
However it leverage's the HTML5 Canvas drawing functions and tries to use them for most drawing operations. This is to try to keep performance as high as possible.

PMC Artbox

It's written in JavaScript, and we're planning to have it finished and online within a week or two.

Flash in the pan

9th November 2011

For a long time on Android, Flash was easily the best, and easily out performed HTML, and other alternatives (such as Java). This is simply because all the alternatives were slow or badly implemented.
This is now changing, making Flash no longer needed.
