Cured!?

Off topic post ahead!

I've been ill for a year and rarely been able to leave the house, due to complete exhaustion and sleeping constantly. I had a diagnosis of severe CFS/ME and I just could not function or even think most of the time.

After a year of that and with no chance of recovery in sight I was just about ready to off myself, to be honest.

But less than a week ago I started taking NADH*, and it was almost an overnight cure. I'm now sleeping 8 hours a day, and I've been out walking!

It's hard to believe the change (and human contact after a year is definitely pretty weird!)... but I haven't felt this good in such a long time.

I'm incredibly excited.

* For anyone interested, the winning combination is 5mg of NADH twice a day and 100mg of CoQ10 three times a day. It's not cheap though - you're swallowing at least £15 a week in tablets.

I know two people who have got M.E. One is a friend, and the other is my sister. My sister never left the house for about a year either, and she sleeps most of the time. My friend Howard, seems to have grown out of it though. But like you say, the medication is f***ing expensive.

I also have a sleeping disorder, but mine is apparently linked with depression and severe anxiety and paranioa.

Good to hear you are starting to feel better Ben, I hope you make a full recovery

Wow. I had no idea things were that bad for you.
I'm glad to hear you're feeling better, no matter what the cost.
..

Kinda puts my "Phone costs too high" rant into perspective!

I had a look at Holland and Barratt's website yesterday...

Those NADH you are refering to, are a flamin' £19.99 for a 30 tablet packet. I think it's about time the NHS start to admit that M.E, is a real illness.

You must be really drained, poor bugger.

Hope you get well soon Ben.

They have only recently recognised it as an illness, but as there's no "proven" cure or treatment yet (I'd only heard of NADH a week or so ago) you can't get the medicine through the NHS... Until just over a year ago you could get the CoQ10 prescribed for free - before New Labour's privatisation of the NHS started and they've stealthily taken a huge amount of medicine off.

But the tablets are worth it though - I feel fantastic!

Are the tablets a life-long thing, or will you remain cured after taking them for a time period ?.

Hopefully after a month I can start gradually cutting down on them and eventually do without. That's the plan, anyway.

Are they just for people with M.E ?

Could they help me with my sleeping disorder ?

@Steve
I was 60% deficient in Q10 (and NADH is an important part in using Q10 and was especially designed as a ME treatment), and I suspect that this is common for most ME sufferers... so exactly the cure for what I had.

I don't know what would be causing your disorder, but Q10 is supposedly a great thing to take for energy anyway (the government has even been thinking about adding it to the water supply because of the benefits - here's the wikipedia Q10 article).

Is your sleeping disorder causing extra sleep or preventing you from sleeping?

It might be a good idea to try the stuff anyway because it has so many benefits and see what effect is has. I'm taking a huge dose; 5mg of NADH a day and 30mg of Q10 a day is more typical (and cheaper!). If it turns out that it helps, Boots are doing a 3 for the price of 2 offer on Q10 and I think they might be doing one on NADH too.

Really, there's a lot of experimenting to see what works. I was taking a handful of vitamins and drinking 13 types of soluble metal salts for a while with no effect.

There are a few things I have a feeling might help you specifically though - Brewers Yeast (I took that for a while) is supposed to help with several things, including sleeping disorders (and is really cheap to buy, too). It's supposed to work with Niacin which interestingly is used to make NADH in the body. Niacin is incredibly hard to absorb (I was taking 2,500% of the RDA with no effect!) and unless you take the expensive kind it causes side effects like burning. So NADH, being the first stable absorbable form of what niacin is used to make... perhaps a combination of Brewers Yeast and NADH might really be a big help to you.

So, yeah, I think it's worth experimenting for a bit. Hopefully you can get this disorder sorted Good luck!

edit: If you do buy brewer's yeast, try to get one with added vitamin B12 if you can - it's the only B vitamin it doesn't contain.

Anxiety, panic attacks, and depression are the cause of my sleep disorder.

I have absolutely no sleep pattern. Some times I can sleep for almost 2 days, most of the time I don't sleep, I just sort of drift in and out of consienceness and then pass out through exhaustion, then I wake up abruptly sometimes causes a panic attack.

On rare occasions, I sometimes get normal sleep, but when I wake, I normally get very tired, especially when I sit in front of the computer, or watch TV.

I friend of mine also mentioned something about Q-10, so I might give that a try.

Cheers Ben.
