No Phone :(

Mum's phone (My old Cookie, LG KP500, 2 year old) finally died on it's arse today.
Not sure why, but it's definitely dead dead.
Won't even light up when plugged into the PC.

Dead dead!!

She's now got my Samsung U600, and is flapping it up and down like a very bored person without their phone..

Mum uses a phone as a phone, as opposed to a very very rare "I can't get internet on my iPod!?!? WTF!!?!" tool, so she gets first priority.

So. No more phone for me.

Should I buy a new phone?

Do I really need a phone?

Can I live without it!?!

.. More than likely.
Any new phone will be a dev-tool, so I'll probably head for an Android, although without any real requirements for "actual phone usage" (ie, Contract!) it'll probably end up costing me a sodding fortune..
Not keen on that!

It's always good to have a phone on you, and I'd just buy a cheapie phone with a pay-as-you-go plan, for emergency situations. If you're not sure whether to buy a phone for developing or not, I just wouldn't. You already have the iPhone at your fingertips.

To paraphrase something someone once said, (I think the person might have been on here, I'm honestly not sure.)
I don't need an iPhone or iPad. I have a netbook for surfing the net, listening to music and watching videos, a cheap throwaway phone to make calls, better ways to do portable gaming, (along with gaming on the laptop) and an e-reader for reading books. Sure, it's a bit more to lug around, but it's worth it; because with a netbook I can also easily write out notes or code, and do lots of other stuff that I wouldn't be able to do on the iPhone OS.

I don't know what the person originally said, or who it was, but that was essentially what it was about.

Yeah, that's generally my issue. I really, honestly, do not need a phone. The only reason I carried one around was for occasional texts home, to see if we needed any bread/milk before coming home.
Now I've lost that ability, and it seems somewhat missing.

A new phone would do two things.
1. Let me text for bread/milk level status!
2. Let me develop for Android.
..
...
Number 2's tempting me, but I need to consider how shitty I felt, recently, by doing way too much.. Number 2 would give me more to do!

I wouldn't get an Android to develop for because your already developing apps for your iPod. I'd just concentrate on one platform for a while before thinking about switching.

What will you gain from a DS version? I personally wouldn't bother, just start on a second iPhone app instead.

Makes me want to develop for the DS even more.

I'd question how many of them would actually turn into iPhone sales. Especially when compared to developing another iPhone game instead and trying to get that shown on a few iPhone game sites.

Lets say 1 in every 100 of those redirects turned into an iPhone app sale. You'll make 60 sales over an entire year. I don't think that's worth enough to warrent making a DS game in order to advertise your iPhone game.

Quick and easy!
I already have all the assets, the game's simple to code, slap it together, job done..

It might perk up interest, it might not, only one way to find out, really...

Plus, if it does generate interest, I know what to do next time, too!!

if you dont mind jailbreaking your ipod, you could get one of these doodads which seems to be an ipod case with a built in phone!
