There is a M.O.D. Weapons factory just about a mile from where I live. It has been subject to attack from weekly demonstrations since about 2004, and just recently got screwed over.

Now, I don't like weapons of war as much as most people, but who will defend us if those factories were killed off by protesters ?

I also sent them an email, basically airing my views.

In the text below, is the email content from me to them. What are your views ?

Hi.

I don't like warfare as much as the next person. But if you managed to stop the manufacture of weapons systems in the UK, then how do we defend ourselves against other warmongering scum in other countries. What do we do, sit back and let a load of Taliban scum come over here, and slowly behead us all with a kebab knife one by one ?.

Sorry guys, but your plan seems fatally flawed to me at the moment, unless you can prove me otherwise. The only way warfare would be stopped, if when all countries lay-down their arms.

P.S...
Although my views are as above, I hope that your cause succeeds in the quest for world peace.

Peace to you all, and take care.

Steve.

Another thing I don't understand... That place is usually crawling with security guards and German Shepherd Dogs. So where were they when this was going on ?

It's cause people are stupid.

They fail to see the bigger picture and are so close minded and only think "weapons are bad".

Oh, but if the country ever gets attacked, blame the government! It's their fault!

Ignorance feels like bliss sometimes. Too bad bliss isn't how life works.

Pacifists say banning weapons would solve the worlds problems, but if we don't have them, then our enemies will.

Now, surrealists will argue that if they could abolish all weapons, it would be a happy world since none of these "instruments of death" would be around to harm us.

Step back and think of that ramification: No weapons, at all. though that in itself is futile. The moment you punch someone in the face, You are utilizing something as said instrument of death.

Go back to the movie '2001: A Space Odyssey' with the apes. The moment they figured out that you could use rocks, their group was the most powerful on the planet, the very first "Bomb". I get this analogy from my friend screaming "WE HOLD THE BOMB" as the apes killed the other ones, but if you think about it, they had the first super weapon.

Rants aside, There are sides to everything. Weapons for offense, and weapons for defense. Peace loving is good and grand, but because we're creatures of choice and logic, we choose to be different from others and strive for our own personal goals to such a degree that we're willing to enter conflict, and logic allows us to use anything to smash, cut, stab, shoot, char, and dismember those who oppose us or wish to harm us or try to take away our things or goals. We'll never be Utopian, so we might as well deal with it.

I was going to add something to this, but it seems both sides have been argued.

However, although I would like a peaceful world, this poor planet of our does have far too many humans on it. I'm not saying that wars is a good thing, but in the past it has reduced the planets population significantly. This however does not seem to be the case with recent wars, so not only is either side proving their point, but they are failing to kill as many people, but they are wasting thousands or even millions of pounds/dollars on absolutely nothing (and then the governments complain about not having enough money for stuff).

There's always a balance to be struck. The UK has the second highest military expenditure in the world (according to the MoD), despite having only the 27th largest military.

You could perhaps make a case for state-owned military, but privately owned defence companies exist to do nothing but profit from war - whoever the contractor. For example, the £40 billion arms deal between UK's BAE Systems and Saudi Arabia, one of the most oppressive countries in the world.

If defence companies existed to *defend* instead of trying to profit through war, yeah, fine.

LOL...

It amazes me how the people that make those videos, say that "WE" are always trying to blow ourselves up !.

ERM, HELLOOO !... "WE" are not the ones with the bombs, it's the f***ing world leaders and terrorist groups, that are trying to blow us up !

The best way to stop wars, would be if all the world's future average Joes, refuse to join the millitary. Then all we need to do is round-up all the world leaders and terrorists, and send them to Mars, so that they can blow the crap out of each other and leave this world in peace.
