Hi All,

Here is a work-in-progress game we have been.. err.. working on... The Munchies:

Guide your Munchies to the Exit...

[Edit - New link]
therevills.syntaxbomb.com/Demos/The_Munchies_July.zip

To-Do:

* Intro
* Outro
* Levels
* Options
* Achievements
* Map Screen
* Sounds / Music

The level editor is included in the zip if you want to mess around with it:

Left Mouse Click - Paste Tile
Right Mouse Click - Clear Tile
Middle Mouse Click - Select area for copy and paste

What do you think?

Yeah its a bit like lemmings, where you have to guide your creatures to the exit... let me know what you think.

Cheers!

Not bad..
Really needs audio!

Otherwise, a few extra lemming'y bits and pieces..
1. Allow keyboard numbers 1-5 for the menu items, since I automatically hit the buttons, and was slightly annoyed they didn't work. Then I tried Z/X to switch, and they didn't work, either!

2. Hold Space to go Fast-Forward, release to return to standard speed. I tried that, too, and it didn't work!! It means you can line up a hit, speed things up, and then be ready, as opposed to having to move the mouse away to hit/release the FF button.

3. .. I spent so long typing #1 and #2, that I went and forgot what I had in mind for #3.
Bugger!

So, basically just keyboard shortcuts. Oh, and sound!
Otherwise, a great game, with fantastic artwork, btw.

Oh yeah, when you release the final one, be sure to include a "I can't stand tutorials, I have no patience, they tick me off, let me skip them!" option

I liked it! I don't know how you made it so that the graphics were embedded in the game, or where you got that mouse image from or the mouse click noise from, but I enjoyed the game nethertheless.

Thanks for the comments guys

Don t worry Jayenkai, I am planning on adding keyboard shortcuts and a skip tutorial options

Oh and thanks for the compression code, I have got something similar somewhere

Good idea about the FF Button - using space - thanks!

@zardon, the game is programmed in BlitzMax so you can include the images and sounds within the exe...

What did you think of the bomb? Do you think it should explode on contact or did the timer add a more skilled aspect?

Nice work so far! I like that you're taking the Lemmings 'template' but doing something new with it -- it has a much more 'arcade-y' feel than Lemmings, and it seems that solving a level is less about setting up a solution and then letting it run than about actively managing your Munchies. Nice, professional-looking presentation.

I wonder if the fact that both bombs and dynamite are timed sort of muddles the distinction between the two -- and I think aiming an on-contact explosion would also present some challenge; the timed nature of the bombs can be a little frustrating. Bomb/dynamite explosions don't seem to hurt the Munchies, but I think they probably ought to. Either that or I am not very good at suicide.

Is there a way to save/load yet, or is that in progress?

Looking forward to the final release -- this is very nice so far!

I think it would work better if the bombs were on-contact explosives and the dynamite is timed would be the best solution. I like Roy's idea about the bombs being able to damage the munchies, just to make things slightly harder. MAybe even give each munchie an amount of energy, so they can withstand a couple of blasts/enemy hits, maybe even have a fall take off x amount so a medium fall would hurt, but a high fall would still kill.

Is it possible to acquire the mouse click noise you use?

Thanks.

Hey Guys!

Heres an updated verison of The Munchies:

therevills.syntaxbomb.com/Demos/The_Munchies_July.zip

Added:
*Keyboard Shortcuts (1-9)
*20 Levels in total
*9 Actions (+4 others - Reset/Nomal Speed/Fast Forward/Slow Mo)
*Data is saved (options/level etc)
*Locked actions
*Options Screen w/ Credits Screen
*Achievement Screen (not finished)
*3 Play Modes
-Casual - Unlimited No. of Actions and no Time Limit
-Normal - Limited No. of Actions and no Time Limit
-Hard - Limited No. of Actions and a Time Limit (some levels have not got a Time Limit set, so you lose straight away! )

Some of the later levels are a bit sparse...

If you've played the game before, delete the "The Revills Games/The Munchies" folder from your Application Data (XP) or ProgramData (Vista/7).

Let us know what you think

Thanks!

... You only just got that!?!

Hasn't stopped Rowntree/Nestle from selling Munchies since the 50s!!

If nothing else, it could help spur on the publicity a teensy bit.
Where's the harm!

Skidmarks, Worms, hell even Wii!!!
They've not suffered.
