Shenmue, Jet Set Radio and Deus Ex aren't on there either.

It's also pretty well dominated by quite similar titles. Some of those I'd agree are good, like Mass Effect, but the idea that it's one of the best games of the last decade makes me feel pretty sad. I also played Gears of War 2 a bit in Hong Kong (there people never ask you to stop playing on games in stores) and I thought it was nothing special. That should definitely be removed. I suspect some were also there not because they were good, but because they were a success. Namely Halo.

Overall I think it's a pretty bad list.

Well, if they didn't include those games, then all the fanboys would rise up and shout 'why!?'! At the end of the day, opinion is opinion, not fact, and the 'best game(s) of the <INSERT TIME PERIOD HERE>' is always going to be subjective.

It's not a bad list, I guess. I'd choose Morrowinds over Oblivion though. It's also sad to see that the good majority of them are futuristic, space-marine, combat games - where'd originality go?

And where are the indie games? This is just a blockbuster list.

Hm.
Not a terrible list, but I'm disappointed The Sims isn't in there somewhere. And to be honest, I feel that GTA 4 was better than San Andreas, and Guitar Hero: World Tour was better than Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock.

Edit: And no, Portal doesn't get the first place! Damnit, it's a good game, but not the best game of the decade!

Edit: First place should probably have gone to The Sims or WoW.

The only one I feel definitely should be on there (of the ones I've played) is Shadow of the Colossus. I really like Mass Effect, FFXII, and some of the others, but I'm not sure they actually deserve to be considered in the top 20.

Actually, I agree with portal at first place.

Yeah, Portal was good, but.. "Best of the decade" good? 'cos don't forget that HL2 was also this decade. I'd count that as better than Portal.

Portal was a really good idea, and it's an awesome game. But it was a short game and I felt it dragged (just a little) towards the end.

There is a very long list of FPS titles I'd put above portal, including Half Life 2 and Deus Ex. But it would rank high on my list of 'best good ideas in games of the last decade'.

The one thing about portal was that the gore was minimal.

That's because robots don't bleed.
Chell does though. A lot.
