Socoder -> On Topic -> WW?

I think status updates (as seen on Facebook) would be popular. I don't post my programming updates on Facebook because most of my friends don't care. The subject of the updates would be geared toward programming obviously. Commenting on other peoples status would be good to have to. This could go on the homepage or something. We already do a lot of unorganized status updates in the shout box but it's messier that way. This would also replace the need for a "what are you doing" topic all the time.

So.... Integrate Twitter, then?

Twitter would work although it wouldn't be as flexible. Commenting would be tricky to implement.

Reintegrating Twitter gets my vote.

indeed.. But, having thunk on the way home.. Would that work?

Like Stealth said, Commenting would be a nightmare, especially for none-twitter members. In the end, wouldn't "A topic" be just as good?

Tonight I'm going to try my hardest to get the music for JNKPlat Trailer #4 done. May/May not work out! Whatever happens, tomorrow's things will be posted early, and that's it! I'm pretty much caught up with all the bollocksy shit that I've been faffing around with, and I'm about 80% sure that my "Socoder work on Tuesdays" can finally start to creep back in. So...
Guess we'll all have to wait and see what turns up, tomorrow night!

Work in progress...

I was going to mess about with fancy styles and things, but at the end of the day I think I'm going to just keep it simple.
We'll have a standard piece of text to just copy+paste, then fill it in. That'll do for the meantime, anyway.

So, how best to word it?

Feel free to tweak/fix, we've a few hours before this whole things starts, so make the most of it.

Suggested topics to discuss is nice, but it should only be suggested. I personally will just sit, type what comes to mind for 10 minutes and then hit 'post reply'.

Jayenkai Like Stealth said, Commenting would be a nightmare, especially for none-twitter members.
You could add a status comment box in the top left, below the logo (and so make the logo smaller to fit). People enter comments and they appear (somewhere). You could then add in the profile section an option to use Twitter as well (or instead of) the enter status box.

Then it's supported for both Twitter users and non-twitter users.

But what about maybe taking this further and having a SoCoder twitter account where these comments are then tweeted? So people could in turn follow SoCoder?

The problem with a "topic" is that it gets dated very quickly. It only shows what we are working on in a single snapshot of time and I don't think it's effective at the overall goal here. The idea of Twitter is that updates are realtime and frequent which is more interactive and interesting.

Although Twitter integrating would be cool, I think the best route is custom software. It alleviates complexity and removes the requirement for having a Twitter account. You could later work in a module that automatically checks your Twitter and clones any of your statuses.

Custom software would be more work then just posting the latest from people's Twitter feeds.

The WW topic wouldn't get too dated too quickly if there was a new one every week.

The point of "Weekly Topic" is that it sticks out like a sore thumb, you read it, you contribute... Whereas the current selection of..

1. Shoutbox
2. Blogs
3. Worklogs

obviously aren't doing it.

Disagree. People regularly post blogs and the shoutbox is used daily.

Yeah, but it's rarely dev related stuff, though. More often than not, it's just random pickings

So would the proposed new WW be purely for coding/dev stuff?

Not just "code" but certainly "work". Something that seems to be becoming more and more offtopic here, lately.

Stop being such a whinging arsehole. If you actually posted stuff other than bitching about everything else, you might find it's less "Jayenkai Centric" and a little bit more "Someone else posting something useful for a change"

FFS, it's a Forum, not my blog.
What happens here happens because people post things. Not because I stop everyone posting things unless they're about me!!

If it's all about me, that's only because I'm desperately trying to clog up the emptyness left by nobody else ever posting things.

We don't all vanish for months at a time, only to return for a good whine.
