Did you guys and girls see this?

Anyone think the ruling should have gone the other way?

I do.

I didn't read the whole thing, but this quote jumped out at me -

This country has no tradition of specially restricting chil-dren’s access to depictions of violence.

So there are no R rated movies in America?

Censorship (in this case by restriction) is a tricky beast at the best of times - you're never going to please everyone all the time.

Just because an age certificate states someone is old enough to access the content it doesn't mean that the content is suitable for that person to have access to.

As for which way these things go, the courts and lawyers are paid much, much better than I to decide these things. That doesn't mean they are always right though!

Arnie wanted to introduce this in California too IIRC.

I was reading about this a couple of days ago. The title you have there is a little misleading, they don't want to ban games, just to enforce a rating system. I see no problem with it, it's up to the store owners to risk their jobs/legal action by selling age rated movies to younger kids, why no games. A lot of these games are far more graphic and involving that some zombie or war movies yet some (many?) countries allow them to be sold to minors when the don't allow the movies to be sold to them.

I agree with Spinal. Computer games are not just for kids, they are cultural artefacts of our time aimed at everyone from adults to children.

I am also getting bored of hearing parents complaining about their children playing games like GTA, when it was the parents who bought it.

Although as a child I also had Mortal Kombat 2 on the Mega Drive, clearly one of the most horrific games of all time. That was a great game.

My parents never gave a rats arse about what games or films I watched as a kid, yet I never grew up to become nonce or an axe murderer!.

No doubt your parents did a reasonable job of teaching you right from wrong. However these days, parents are becoming lazier and allowing kids to learn their moral values from TV and video games and teaching their kid little if any restraint.

On average crime is down, year on year, so statistically more people know right from now then in the past.

Every generation seems to think their is worst then the last, and I think it's simply because your living through it. The grass is greener and all that.
