Alf Garnett is the king of grumpy old gits. Shut up you silly old cow! Alf was great - what he/the show did was very clever. His personal rants about woman, foreigners etc. etc. weren't seen as sexist or racist, but showed just how ignorant and intolerant he was of the world (and its people) around him and how scared he was of change in a constantly evolving world. He reflected the everyday common man quite clearly. |
