Socoder -> Web Development -> MAMP + Dropbox + WAMP.....

Back Story...

Having switched to mac a while ago, I do most of my dev work (and anything else for that matter) in a small corner of the spare room. Getting bored of the wall I look at for a couple of house each day, I figured it's time to dust off the old laptop and get back to coding crap on it.

As I'm attempting to learn some web stuff (slowly I might confess) I figured it'd be nice to have my localhost setup somehow link between my mac and laptop rather than copying files back and forth between them.

So far...

1. MAMP installed and working on the mac although it insists on using port 8888.

2. Dropbox installed on the mac, working.
I managed to get my localhost setup on the mac to use folders in my dropbox, dropbox/seerver/mysql and dropbox/server/websites

3. Windows...
installed a whole pile of microsoft crap just to get WAMP to work, got wamp working, seem to have it pointing to dropbox/server/websites for my localhost folder but cant get past "Error establishing a database connection".

httpd.conf

my.ini

Any ideas?

Sounds like the sort of stuff I attempted, a while back.
I eventually settled on the "oh, fuck it, I'll just copy the damn files" method.
.. You only need one update, either side, to fuck the entire bloody process up.

Of all the stupid things that need fixing!

Would you believe the problem was down to me using the 64bit version of WAMP? Or rather (worse) that the 64bit version doesn't have a section in the my.ini file that it actually uses! Thats right, change as much as you want and it only ever uses the defaults! Excellent!
Anyway, to fix the above issue, for anyone else who wants to do this, or more likely, ME in the future...

be sure to change

to

if you're using the 64bit version, or else you'll be pulling your hair out for two days!

So now I have a shared mysql data folder, or rather dropbox backed up data folder and separate projects folder that I can acces from the 'offica' and the couch!

...Now if I hadn't replaced my Win7 install with that Win10 preview, the laptop would boot up and run at a decent speed...

Win 10s slower than 7?! Seems odd.
8's preview was INFINITELY faster than 7 was... Hmmm..

Might just be my poor specs, but it boots up quite slow compared to win8 preview, powers down slower also but cheacs by switching off the monitor nice and early so you think its shut down :-p

LOL.. Yeah, i think Win 8 does that, too. You'd think it's off, but the fan still secretly whizzes away for another minute or so.
