I've found myself worrying about this sort of stuff myself, lately. It was when I was looking into getting ALChoons onto iTunes that I started overthinking the complexities of copyright theft.

Essentially, what if a twatty company that I'm paying to monitor the net for my content, decides that I am infringing on it, when I post elsewhere.
What if I'm unable to use my own music in my trailers because I've not paid for a trailer license to the original musician (myself) and some twatty firm thinks they're doing the right thing by blocking it?

I mean, we see this bullshit happen every other week to giant corporations, and it's amusing when Warner Brothers DMCA Takedown their own trailers!!!
But if that happened to me, I'd be pretty fucking pissed off by the entire thing, and the reality is, it's SO easy for that to happen!!!

ALChoons are staying off iTunes until I can figure out the best way to do that myself, without going through a "publisher" to do it.
And the same goes for the rest of my shit.

Screw it, it's all freeware, anyway!!

It doesn't seem any different to local chavs knocking on your door and telling you they won't burn your house if you give them shitloads of money each week.

I'm thinking of taking up their free evaluation and see what happens from there.

As soon as you release a game on one of the big casual portals your game is on a pirate site either the same day or the next

I know that people who wants to pirate will find away, but we are trying to advertise our game and if people put in the name of the game within Google it outputs heaps of illegal download links.

I would prefer to find someone you can 100% trust.

Free trial, handing them the reigns, then pulling out after the free trial and not having complete control returned to you....?
I personally wouldn't risk it.

Jay what do you mean about handing them the reigns? Have I missed something in the fine print?

Unless part of the agreement is that you waive rights of your own then I don't see how this could be too bad a thing, depending on how much control you have over their web spider of course.

I would hope you could whitelist certain domains in order to prevent takedown notices from being served incorrectly as part of the service they would provide.

Currently, you're the face of your legal team. If you "Hand over the reigns" to someone else, they might be the people behind the scenes, but at the end of the day, you're STILL the face of your legal team.
When Sony sent takedowns for all that Pixels crap lately, that wasn't "Sony" that did it, but you can bet your arse that everyone blamed Sony.

Basically, you lose control over what people think of you, if "you" suddenly start hassling loads of people. You need to be 100% sure that the company is doing the RIGHT thing, and aren't (for example) simply googling a few results (which may or may not be accurate) issuing DMCA Takedown Notices, then sending you a bill saying "Hey, look, we did good!"

If they did that, then A) They're just fucking scamming you, and B) YOU will be the one to bare (/bear) the brunt of the fallout, not them.

Well my wife has spent the last 3 days sending messages to a lot of the file download sites... its quite a bit of work but they do take them down.

It seems they make it harder for the copyright holders to report than it is to upload files :/
