Seinfeld, I enjoyed, but it didn't hit a stride until after about season4, for me.
That's the problem with shows, these days. They don't get given 4 years to find themselves! Six episodes in and shows can get cancelled by networks. You have to start strong or you're gone.

Friends, in contrast, started out popular but petered out for me around season 5/6 when it became "the Chandler and Monica show"..
Around about season 8, they gave up trying to stick to story arcs, and went back to individual funny episodes, and I think that's the best period of the show. Just comedy episodes.

A sitcom I REALLY dislike is Big Bang Theory.
Everything about that show screams "this is a show you should like", but it contains that one single thing that pisses me off.
Constant, and I mean CONSTANT references to "he is an outsider". It's as relentless as the "he is gay" in Will and Grace and "she is a hippy" in Dharma and Greg.
I HATE that kind of show. Sure, make the characters different, but when every two minutes the audience is laughing at EXACTLY THE SAME FUCKING JOKE, it's not a good fucking joke!!!!

Look at That 70s Show. That was a show set in the 70s, and after about 10 minutes into the first episode, it finds a comfortable place to tell jokes without having to constantly bring up the fact that it was set in the 70s. It just IS, and the humour comes from other things.
Same with Corner Gas.. Set in a small town, and frequently joking about that fact, but never bringing it up every two fucking minutes for the sake of a cheap laugh.

... I should probably stop ranting, now!!

Soaps... I hate soaps... Eastenders, Corrie, Emmerdale...

The way they string out story lines is unreal, they could honestly turn the act of a dog having a shit last for three months!

Then, story lines which should span quite a while are forgotten about at a whim... Take the Queen Vic's Sunday League football team... Nobody seemed to tell the story writers that Sunday league teams play up to 20 matches per season, not... Three!

Dreadful, just dreadful!

And... And... How come all the soaps "Hard men" are about as macho as a bastard carrot...

Take that flid who's running about on Corrie, the one after ET's son and girlfriend... He's supposed to be a bad'un... Fuck me gently... Is that really the best they can do, tell a complete wet arse to grow a shitty bit of facial hair, strut about like a snarling pansie and he is supposed be be super solid... I've dropped harder arsecakes after a madras!

Fucking shite... All of them... Soaps, you can stick them up your arses!!!

I'm with you on the soaps Dabz - hate them all. Although you do seem to know an awful lot about what's going on in them...

As for BBT - I didn't get into that either Jay. A lot of these American shows think they are smart or incredibly funny, when they're far from both.

Then again, I rarely watch much these days - I tend to start and then fall asleep half-way through, due to being knackered.

Yeah, you cannot really escape from them though really can you, the ex-wife was soap daft and so is the lass I'm meeting now!

I just go on my phone when Kirsty puts them on, and only surface from it to knock out sarcastic comments... Granted I'm greeted with "Shut your face", but, it helps the agony!

I thought Big Bang was great but it's been slowly (?) turning info Friends. Sheldon isn't as broken as he started out, the group generally aren't as nerdy as they were and nowhere near as much as they should be. I keep watching it though, it's not 'bad' it just isn't as good as when it started.

Not Going Out?

Occasionally... Only due to the fact the remote is over the other side of the room and one is unable to be arsed to get up and get it!

As for American sitcoms... such a big fuckoff country and it seems not one person has grasped the key to good comedy.

I think our TV comedy now roughly resembles that in the states, as in, not funny anymore, its too safe and too generic.

A prime example of how unfunny our TV comedy is, and how they'll shove any old shite on the TV under the guise as a "comedian", is... Russell Brand!!!

I wouldnt pay him to carry bricks in a hod never mind sign him up on a fortune as a comedian!

If I won tickets to see one of his shows, I'd ask them if they could swap them for something I'd enjoy more, like, a syringe full of windolene(TM)!

True.. Most of my comedy comes from either Radio 4 or Podcasts!!
I'm still a sucker for both Mock the Week and HIGNewsForYou, but ... Yeah, struggling to think of the last decent sitcom I watched.
..
Oh, no, wait.. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt filled a void. That was enjoyable. .. Although whether that was because it WAS good, or because there's feck all else out there, I'm not sure!

I'll happily rewatch Corner Gas all the way through at any given moment.

Americans really can't do decent sitcoms for toffee can they. They can't even copy ours and make them good.

I have to say though that Canada can, if "Corner Gas" is a typical example (cheers Jay )

Reality Shows are also a no-no in my house. Don't watch any of them other than I'm A Celebrity and Bake Off. I blame the missus for those too. Big Brother, Strictly, X-Factor and co. can all take a big flying fuck off as far as I'm concerned.

for the past few years I've been listening to hancocks half hour, a radio sitcom (probably the first) from the mid 50's and onward. you can no doubt find some episodes online if you look hard enough. quite a lot of it still relevant to, although a couple of political/celeb references are completely lost on me.

I can't be bothered with most traditional TV nowadays either.

Don't watch the news, it'll probably just be depressing shite.

Don't watch the soaps, same reason, also I'll hate myself for watching them.

Haven't watched anything on the box aside from kids tv with the kids and Formula 1, because, I really enjoy that!

We've got a netflix subscription and youtube which cater for pretty much anything together.

I've not watched many comedy shows recently, mostly because they've just become a bit stale to me over time. Miss the likes of Frankie Boyle, Richard Herring, Ade Edmonson, etc. Jimmy Carr is alright and QI is also pretty good in the background.

If I can grab them on soundcloud or,err, anything that's not iTunes then that's cool, trying to keep the works PC free of bloatware as much as I can. Reminds me that I need to have a clear out on this PC also sometime!

Did Andrew Collins ever do anything with him again?

I'm sure they're available somewhere, but I tend to use the Apple Podcast player...
However... They're freely playable via YouTube, so you can see them with your eyes.
