There's been a lot of Chromecast compatible apps on iOS, lately. Most of the media things support it. Not sure why there's a sudden influx, but handy that they're there!

It doesn't seen to be a very useful gadget at all.

1. I have a smart TV.
2. I have a PC in the living room plugged into the smart TV.
3. see point 1.
4. see point 2.

From what I can tell, it could be rooted to run proper android and therefor do something, but it looks like to much of a waste of time. No doubt it will sit sealed in the box until it has no resale/trade value.

I think that's the whole point of a chromecast, it lets you expand dumb tv's into something a bit more "smarter", and it does this job well... but if your already covered in this department, well... Yeah, it's pretty much useless!

My dumb tv has an Apple TV connected, which is great when even your mum can figure out how to send a YouTube video to the telly!!
Chromecast's practically the same but for (typically) Android.

No android and no dumb tv = no point.
I'm sure you can find a relative who might make good use of it.
Regift FTW!!!
