Got to get me a dashcam. Just nearly got took out reversing out of parking space by some dickhead driving like Nigel Mansell near the school. Fucker got both barrels.

Some people! I was just walking on the sidewalk near my appartment and some guy sissed at me as if I were a cat, he was bycicling on the sidewalk and needed to get by.

This is the third time I've nearly got wiped out by the same guy. Lords it about because he's supposedly done an advanced driving course, yet he drives like a complete bellend. Dunno about an advanced course but I'm questioning whether he's got a licence at all.

Which one did you get?

We've been thinking about getting one too.

They are definitely becoming an essential piece of kit for drivers

I got a NextBase about 18mnths ago - while I've recorded lots of bell-ends, none have been worthy of broadcasting or shaming. And thankfully none have required me to show footage to my insurer...

Haven't got one yet but most likely will be the Nextbase Duo, since it records behind too and that's where many of the knobheads appear from.

Popular one in UK atm; you're waiting to get out at a junction. A car from your right flashes you. As you set off, they floor it into the side of you. They claim you they never flashed you and you weren't looking where you were going. Said car contains 5 people, all claiming whiplash injuries. Write off a £500 car, pocket £10k compensation between them. And in almost every case, it's immigrants doing it.

Dunno whatever happened to getting a job if you want money.

Yup... idiots indeed.
Although, maybe less of the Daily Mail "immigrants" stuff..

I've seen that vid before; without that footage she'd have been fucked.

As I said earlier, they are pretty much essential nowadays.

It's a fact. I'm not just pinning this shit on ethnic minorities for something to do. They are organised gangs from eastern europe who do it again, and again, and again.

I'm quite surprised the word "immigrants" offends you somehow. I'm actually more offended by you claiming I read the fucking Daily Mail.

I grew up as an Irish kid, living in England, in the 80s, whilst all the shitty IRA crap was happening.
I guess that makes me a little more sensitive to those kinds of things.

There is a family up our way that scammed the life out of insurance companies:-

www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/wright-family-masterminded-cash-crash-1760678

They made a fortune... Yeah most of them got jail time, but, they are the type of people that just constitute that as an occupational hazard!

Those sort of wankers are the ones that keep good drivers like us paying though the nose for car insurance. £373 fucking quid this year; it's only a Renault Megane DCI 120 for fuck sake, not a Focus ST.

Insurance companies like to blame those wankers for increasing prices, but really, are they to blame?

These companies have got drivers by the short and curlies as motor insurance is a legal requirement. They can charge whatever the fuck they want to, knowing that people have to pay.

How easy is it to plug these systems in? Do you need a proper auto-sparky to do it?
Sun, 15 Oct 2017, 16:09

From what I've seen on TechMoan's channel, (he reviews lots of these!) it can be as easy as plugging into the Cigar Lighter doohickey. Turning on power automagically triggers the record, so you don't have to faff about.

Jayenkai Cigar Lighter doohickey

The car I have now has a lighter socket but no ashtray, which don't really bother me as smoking is banned in my car anyway. It's the first ever car I've had that don't have any ashtrays.

Cars need to have USB sockets around the place!

I use the lighter for my GPS device so I wouldnt be able to run both.. and what about a camera in the back - it'll be cable hell!

Those old lighter sockets probably will get phased out in favour of USB eventually.

I imagine most electric vehicles have USB sockets. I mean.. they would, right??

You can get an installation kit for dashcams which includes a transformer, about 3 miles of wire and a fuse splitter so you can just plug it into a permanent live fuse. Can do it yourself even with basic car knowledge.

Id do it that way. Couldn't cope with the wire dangling down to the ciggy lighter and swinging about.

My car has a lighter socket and two USBs. I plug my dashcam into the lighter and chased the wire under all the trim and furnishings. The dashcam adapter I have is much smaller than a normal lighter adapter, so it's not very prominent and doesn't get in the way at all.
