Neary 600 snots for 16 minutes pf flight time!?!?

I've flown remote helicopters in the past which have around 8 minutes flight time, but they were only $100 or so. ..

Crikey, that’s a bit pricey!!
I expect videos.. lots of videos!!!

Was tempted to buy one myself. Albeit one of the cheaper shittier £50 ones.. but figured, with my lack of head movement to keep an eye on the thing, that I’d probably lose the fucker after about a minute... so, didn’t bother!

Yeah, but you get extra batteries, another two, so that 48 mins in total, which is fine by me!

I've been musing about a one for a while, there's been loads of places I've been where a drone would've been great, so, I was thinking, sod it, I'll get one!

I'll get a few!

First up though is a piss take to my mate who lives across the street... We constantly wind each other up about being nosey gits, I call him the Langley Curtain Twitcher as I caught him peeking out of his curtains as I was driving up the street, and it went from there... So I'll be dropping it in front of his window while hes on the sofa watching tele! lol

So are you gonna make your money back by using it to deliver contraband to prisoners?

Highly unlikely, they apparently now have signal jammers in those places. Even if they don't track you down afterwards they still get to keep your drone.

For £600 you could tie helium balloons to me and I'd steady-cam a vid for ya!

Founder and CEO Richard Gill said: "It disrupts the control network between the flyer and the drone. The drone then activates return to home mode and it will then fly back to the position where it had signal with its flyer.

Assuming GPS is blocked too, there is a great little project here:

- Strap a Raspi to it
- Get a picture from google maps/whatever of where you want to drop your payload
- Use a combination of dead reckoning navigation + image recognition to know where you where

Job done

Alternatively, a really, really long piece of fine cable - and run it off a teather.

Or some sort of laser guiding system. "Paint the target" and the drone will navigate toward it.

There is also Lidar.

OK, fair enough. I read back a while somewhere that they use the same system that the military uses, the one where they just down the drone. Does make sense what you just said though, anyone that knows the drone will return home would be such a prat if they did try it on, all the old bill needs to do is follow the drone back to where it goes.

Right, the little chopper drone has arrived, If youve seen Daves manflu post, you'd have spied him, but heres the lad full on at the mush:-

Got the batteries charging, all the LED's are twinkling to show they are, it's like a sports and social disco over there!

But yeah, the kit is canny mind, lovely little charging doc thing, the remote is clunky in a very robust way, which is good, the smartphone gripper on the bottom holds the phone in well, nice and snug and feels comfy. All the accessories come in a nice little bag*, the drone doesnt, but what it does come in is adequate, I may have to look at something to carry everything around though.

I have been eyeing up more batteries, and found this:-

https://store.dji.com/product/spark-portable-power-pack?from=menu_products

Looks handy, so before I go anywhere big, I think I'll be par chasing that, it includes 2 extra batteries, and keeps enough juice in it to charge another 3... So, technically, I can have 4 fully charged, then, recharge 3 of them when on the move.

Thats got to be enough fly time for anything really.

So, the batteries are on, I'm not going to tempt fate and fire it up in the house, cos I know what I'm like... It'll be cracked against a wall in no time... Weather isnt great outside, so, hopefully, tomorrow after work, I can fire it up in the garden and start to get to grips with it... Then chase my mate over the road!

Dabz

*Though, it is one of them bags that was originally packed perfectly, and, as soon as I started packing it again, well, things just didnt go in without a mega rejig of everything and a bit of a squish with this, then that... I hate it when that happens!

Just don't try flying blindly behind you to film yourself pulling a moony, you don't want another gash on that arse.

Currently uploading a video, done a slight bit of editing, added the epic music, video editing is all brand new to me, exported it to MP4, rolls in at 380MB, lol, I know nothing about video formats really, but anyway, seems to have exported okay, plays well... Only slight problem is... My upload speed, its telling me there 7.5hrs left, so, will let it roll and post it tomorrow.

But if anyone can recommend a video format when rendering in Vegas Pro 14, which keeps quality, but lowers the file size a little, that'll be nice!
