The "Change Style" links are on the left in Firefox and Opera, but centered in IE6..

Criticism - It hurts my eyes if I rapidly flip between the two themes.

Have I still not finished this??

No!

Quick question before I finish off all the new theme stuff.
Are there any additional items you'd like to place inside the little Gardenbars?

Currently we have

Web Addy
Email Addy
MSN
AIM
ICQ
Yahoo
GoogleChat/Talk/Whatever it wants to be today
and PM

I'm sure there's more we can put there. Any suggestions?

Perhaps Profile, since clicking on a name leads to the Blog.
Or logically, turning it the other way around, clicking on a name leading to the Profile, and adding a gardenbar button for the Blog.
Even though all links are accessible from the profile/blog page as well

Actually, once the new script's up, the Profile page is pretty much unused, other than setting your own stuff.
It's still there, exactly the same, but the Blog page has been tweaked to include the PM link, avatar, and a few other bits and pieces.

See here

Test!!!

OK, index2 is getting near it's final stages, so if you all want to hop on over, you can try out the new Theme stuff.

Click into the Site Themes area, and you get a whole new weird look to the thing.

First off, you'll notice the new Preview.
This is actually taken from the "While you're editing" preview.html page, so nothing too fancy there.
But you can click away on the left, then hit the Preview button to see a proper preview of how your settings will look.
If you prefer to click pictures instead of lists, scroll down to the bottom of the page where there's a 3x3 grid of all the available options.

I'll be honest, It's a bit messy!

But it works!!.

Three things missing
1) Theres only 4 themes currently available. Those are the 4 most used themes at the time of writing. I'm getting round to finishing off the rest.
2) Smilie selection isn't in there. I'm not sure whether to put it in there, or shove it back over to the standard Profile page. Technically it does belong in with the themes, so I should just stop being a lazy git and plonk it in there..
3) "I wanna make my own" - I'll get round to it..

Feel free to play about, and you can safely save the settings you pick.. They won't alter your index.php settings since they're stored differently.

Comments?

Rather cool, but how easy will you find it to include new themes people make? (I think it needs a few different stylesheets )

The new index2.php looks quite cool - but I'll stick with index.php until ShroomCoder becomes available on V2. Talking of which, who is the second person using the ShroomCoder theme? Just out of interest - cos the site doesn't tell you who's using what theme.

It's a mess... D'you want it? Here it all is!!!

The New CSS2 Buildset

It took me bloody well long enough, but I'm finally on the last stretch before I release the whole new "New Theme" thing!

Things I haven't yet done.

1) The CSS Build set it still a little bit of a mess. What I have found is that it's far easier to start from a Version 1 theme than it is to start from a "Blitz Builder" set... That's typical, isn't it!
Having said that, I did make a nice Midnight Blue theme from scratch, using the Blitz Builder, so it's not all that bad!

2) There's a few themes I haven't bothered to do yet. Those are..
RGB Light - The first theme created for Socoder, but it's been unused for a while, so I think it's time to retire it.
Dark and Light - Stealth's theme which freaked out due to it's multiple colourings and font sizes! I sent it over to Stealth to fix up, but haven't heard back from him yet.
BC-Esque - Created by Instinct, but mostly unused. I think everyone's using the Real-BC theme instead!
Bricked - Magicman's theme that no-one ever uses. He keeps trying to make it better, but it never seems to work out quite right. Maybe now there's a good excuse to start again, eh!
Socialist Coder - Created by Hoboben. The weird "shifting hyperlink" thing caused freakout's at weird places! I'm sure it's something Hobo would like to fix, so I'll be letting him do that! (As in, this is boring work, and by the time I got up to it, I really couldn't be bothered!)
Cubic (DevCrunch Alike) - Was really just created for an April Fool. I'll let it rest in peace.
Needs More Color - Was created to originally test out the CSS2 stuff, along with Argh! Red!.. It didn't get used, so I'm scrapping it.

3) I still haven't picked a way that Smilies can be chosen, yet. The "Site Theme" is really cluttered, so I think I'd prefer to put the smilies back onto the main Profile page.. But we'll see.

4) A few last minute touch ups. .. I forgot to tweak the "You've got a PM!" coloring on a couple of themes, and things like that.

And, quite frankly, that's it pretty much done.

Feel free to switch to using index2.php for the meantime, since it's about 98% working now! And you can try out the new/fixed themes and let me know if you like them.

Themes which are up and running, but which might be tweaked further..
Krylar - BlitzCoder : Now with added permission!
Jayenkai - Dark and Blue : The 2nd theme I created for the site.. Originally complained about, but a few people seem to still like it.
StealthSPC - Mostly White : Stealth's popular shiney white design.
Ingenium - White Ingenium : Even whiter than Stealth's!
Jayenkai - Blueprint : It's got blue on it.
Shroom Monk - ShroomCoder : I had fun playing with Mushrooms! By this point I gave up trying to squeeze "GChat" and "Yahoo" into the Gardenbars, so I just started putting big G's and Y's in, instead!
TNT - SoMatrixed : Full of bubbly buttons.
MikeT - A Bit Blue : A lighter shade of Blue.
Jayenkai - SoCPC : For that incredibly retro feel.
Jayenkai - Argh! Red!! : Too much red, perhaps?
Jayenkai - Midnight Blue : More blues than you can handle.

And, a further note. On the Site Themes page, I'll obviously be adding the "CSS2 BuildSet" file, but I'll also be including links to all the current themes, all packaged up and ready for tweaking, should you want to do things that way.

Phew!

I'm off to bed!

Maybe I'll try my hand at theme-making again; perhaps I'll target a different area this time so as not to compete with the BC theme.

|edit| hell, i'm not even using my own theme, i'm using the actual BC theme |edit|

And there you have it.

The biggest change since the site started.. A good few months worth of work. Plenty of theme tweaking and lots of fiddling with lots of files.

It looks the same.

What a waste of time.. > Reveal 🔎 |edit| If you spell spoiler right! |edit|

|update| If you see anything looking particularly weird/wrong, let me know so's I can tweak the theme a little. |update|

Aaah, yes, of course.. I'd forgotten about adding the old gardenbars back in.
Silly me.
Honestly I was just having fun making up the new ones! To a point.. They got a big annoying after I'd done 3 or 4 of them

I'll find somewhere to put them!

Right now, REALLY ANNOYINGLY, the FTP server seems to be on the fritz. So, I can't change anything without taking the site down and doing it using the silly File Manager. So, sod that! I'll give it an hour or two.. If it's not working, then I'll sleep on it, and have another play in the morning.

Oh, and which clocks do you mean?

OK, Orange+Blue clocks are back, in the quickly-made kinda-rubbish SoCitrus theme. I also put your 8-bit gardenbar in there, too.

Smilies are back in the profile section for the meantime.

1) Your Gardenbar reads "So Citrus - By Jayenkai" because that's the theme it's been dumped into temporarily.
If someone wants to build a whole theme to fit the 8-bit theme then dump your gardenbar in with it, then the gardenbar will recieve the name of that theme, along with the name of it's author.
If I go through each section of each theme it means having 9 arrays, and I really don't want to have to have the script do all that.

2) Misc isn't really that important. It holds the two Quote icons, the "Unformat" icon for each post, the Download icon, and the small mushroom when you use the Moan tags.

3) Smilies are in the profile, not the theme. I really need to organise the whole thing, it's a bit of a mess at the minute.

4) Color behind the latest posts thing. I guess not, but I thought it added a little something, and it made the BC theme slightly closer to the original style. Guess I went a little overboard, though

5) The blue and brown theme's a little further than the original, but not really by much.
Old
New
Again, it's mostly the sidebar color that's effecting it.

If I tweak a few settings, I might be able to add a "Plain Sidebars" option into the settings somewhere.
Let me have a fiddle.

6) Not that kind of fiddle, svrman...
