Socoder -> Off Topic -> Spinal's Laptop Keyboard

Well after a scary few hours, I managed to complete a keyboard transplant on my laptop. So now I have a backlit keyboard. Will it effect my battery life? maybe. Will it effect my ability to type in the dark? yes will it take me long to get used to the different amount of travel on the keys? Very likely

Scary!

The laptop wouldn't switch back on again after the operation. Tried pulling everything out, putting it in again, powering on with or without certain things connected. Did an LCD self test, powered without RAM. All sorts of things.

Eventually it just came back on by itself! A similar situation happened once when I accidentally yanked a usb cable out when walking past it. I assume some sort of short protection ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Eek! But good to know it's still going.
Let us know how the battery goes.
That little Bluetooth keyboard I bought for my Android a while back, has an approximate 12 hour battery without the backlight on, and about an hour with it on!!!

I doubt it will effect the battery much at all. I have the screen on full brightness mostly, so I never got 'optimum' battery life to start with. usually a few hours though. It's been much better since adding the ssd at xmas.

Hmmm, I've noticed a slight curve in the height of the keyboard. I know there's nothing bulging in the laptop, it's nowhere near the battery or anything, it's probably not clicked in perfectly that's all.
It was practically an all day job to fit the thing (it wasn't actually user replaceable, so there was plastic cutting and melting involved) so I'll have to get used to it. I'm not going through that again.

Eek!
Hopefully it doesn't impact your typing.

The keys having less travel does :-p
It's odd, it's not wiggly enough to see, but you can feel it 🤔

I'm a little tempted to open it up on my next day off work and see if it's just a case of a small dollop of hot glue is all it needs. Any more that that, then it's staying that way.
The process initially involved chipping away plastic rivets then melting the plastic back on.
