My last console was the ps3. I'm not sold on the consoles this new generation or the ones before. A lower midrange laptop is enough for gaming here.

In PS5/XBSX generation they have now SSD storage so games will load so much faster, DF actually said it was nearly on par to cartridge games. Also with the PS5 at least it has ray tracing GPU.

So overall it is a good upgrade, but it all depends on the games...

Nope, I'm fine with what I've got over here still at the moment.

The tech certainly is great looking. But, yeah.. the games...

I did a test with a free SSD speed tool from the windows store. It said the read speed on my laptop was 3.6 gigabytes per second. The ps5 does 5.5 gigabytes per second. Max SSD speeds on the market can do 15 gigabytes per second.

Maybe that Cyberpunk 2077 game wil turn out being the best game ever made. But from what I have seen it is not something I would play more than a couple of weeks.

Yeah, I'm still perfectly happy with my current games library to be honest, yeah, I have my favourites and nowhere near as many as some mates who are collectors also.

I... shock horror... might not need any more games?! Has that time come already, crikey.

I haven't touched my XBox or PS4 in well over a year (can you imagine how long those will take to update???). It's a safe bet to say that I can wait a while longer before jumping into the new tech. I'm still happy using my Switch for now (although I'm only really playing Animal Crossing ATM).

Haven't played that in a while.
Thought about it, last night, so grabbed my 3DS only to realise it was on the Switch, so instead ended up playing Rhythm Heaven/Paradise Gold for about an hour!!

Hmmm....

I've just "finished" Zelda Breath of the Wild after taking my time unlocking most of it and even then I didn't find the Hyrule shield until I replayed my last saved game.

These days I normally only play a couple of games at a time as if I go between too many I lose where I'm at, so I'll be going back to my PS4 pro to start Star Wars Fallen Order since Im done with Zelda.

I might buy or make a 2 player Mame cab next year if things go well instead. I've already planned a space for it in the bed room

Mega Download Day!

Reminder that if Santa's bought a modern console for any of the kiddies, you should definitely get an Elf to plug the console in and do all the downloads and updates for them, beforehand.

Got a ps5! Had to remove 2 devices just to get it under the TV!
Note - GPU Jungle theme is possibly the best song I have heard in a very long time 🤘🧐

What games did you get?

Sack boys big adventure and Spiderman. Sack boy is quite good so far. The free Astros play room is good, very much my kind of game.

I've been really tempted to get Spiderman(albeit on a crummy old PS4) but.. .. yeah, I expect that to be bad for my motion sickness!!

Sack boy does look fun.
Is he still floaty, though?

Yeah, the controls are exactly the same, but it's more of a an open worldish game rather than the 3 later platformer that little big planet was.

I'll add it to my "three games before I buy a console" list, then

I'm going to go for three NEW games, though. If I DO buy one, NoMansSky will definitely be on there.. but I'm not counting that as one of the three!

Helen told me I'm wrong to call sack boy open worldish, as it's still very linear, but it is still more in the realm of a real 3d platformer than LBP was.

The addition of "ish" let's you off, IMO
Where would it be on a scale of Super Mario 3D World to Mario 64?

It's a bit more linear than m64, come to think of it, it's more Yoshi's epic yarn than anything else. But perhaps a bit bigger that...

Ok. Intrigued.
A few others on my Twitter feed seem to have enjoyed it, too.
