I love having the folder at the top of the screen to get to my documents. I hate getting to them through the start menu.

DD: one of my favorite key combos: windows key + e
opens up an explorer window

and, in case anyone didn't know these others:
windows key + r = start run
windows key + d = minimize everything and show desktop
windows key + space (vista only) = bring gadgets to front
ctrl + shift + esc = open task manager (so you can skip the ctrl + alt + del part)

I knew Windows + r and Windows + d, but not the other two. The last one would be very useful, thanks. I hate having to go into that security thing, and I think when you do you should be able to use the task manager in there.

If we're talking Windows Key combos, there's one better than Win + d...

Windows + m = minimize everything and show the desktop
Windows + Shift + m = restore minimized windows

With an intellipoint wheel mouse installed Windows + c opened Control Panel, which was very nice... don't know if it still works in XP/Vista but you needed the Intellipoint mouse anyway.

ctrl + shift + esc : accidentally found whilst playing with a CPC Emulator!

Quite why they picked those keys though, I'm not sure.. Maybe someone at MS was an Amstrad fan!?

well, um hey
my desktop is cheesy and boring.

how about an interactive screen saver type
of desktop.
Like the House of the Dead 4.
My favorite arcade game for this year. True!
I can envision scenes that you can pick
and choose and slow down and speed up.
Like each time I goto/return to my desktop
one scene would be where some zombies drop
down and with icons of basic apps such as
"My Computer" and other programs..that can be tagged
and customized with the computer desktop icons.
You enter and run the app by shooting the zombie
app/icon with the special selection of weapons available
in your House of the Dead 4 desktop.

hey, and here is a special House of the Dead 4
enjoy and "No Time to Rest"

I noticed that too. I just blew it off as a porn folder, though.

LOL. Ya, I have kids who use this computer, and all of the downloads that make the computer work are in there. For example, anti-virus, defrage etc. I should re-word that huh? LOL

well hey, Super Trooper

I think I'm going to make an interactive desktop
wallpaper myself.
I don't know how...yet.

Yet, I like and want to work on one.
Maybe there are some available for download??

Really? I made a .gif image once, where the police car had blinking police light and looped it. It wa great but it did suck up energy though

actually, you can set an html page as the desktop background; i used to do it to mess with my mom because i'd embed some javascript to make a popup window and it would say "fatal error 10013434 0x034024" or something, worked every time. My favorite thing to do though was setting a jscript password form

I've made a few changes to my desktop, so here it is.

Although the desktop on the left is actually running Space Time 3D, that's not the background picture.

Yod'm 3D! It doesn't quite work as well as the Linux cube, sometimes it can get confused as to which desktop your switching. The anti-aliasing also won't work.

It does look beautiful.

But customizing desktops is one thing I hate about Linux. It looks very nice when people first boot it up, but then they customize it with garish colours, ugly low-quality backgrounds and themes that just clash. It's like a MySpace OS.
