Anyone else experiencing new Windows10 bugs recently? I cant click on Shutdown via the Start menu.. and Copy/Paste via keyboard and context menu is dodgy on some apps (eg Sticky Notes)

That sounds very odd. I'm not seeing anything on my end, but then I'm Remote Desktop'ing into a MacMini which is running Windows. So, um.. Probably not a valid result!

If anything, I would guess they're buggering things up so that everyone has a good reason to upgrade to 11.
.. But Microsoft aren't that evil. ... .....

A couple of days ago I started noticing very tiny hickups. The sound and mouse and screen freezes for a fraction of a second. This during loading webpages and such. I started getting wifi security messages from my Lenovo security app also.

In the recent past webbrowser updates would mess up windows 10.

Hmm, also started getting errors about not enough video memory to create a window...

That's starting to sounds like it might not be a Windows issue..
Grab a usb stick and pop a self-booting Linux on.. see if that has issues.

Can you run a memory and HDD test too?
Mon, 06 Sep 2021, 03:49

Hopefully that does indeed fix it..
*fingers crossed*

If not, you can run a Linux distributor on a USB stick, and get THAT to do the check, then you'll know if it's the hardware going tits up, or just the OS which has corrupt.

So going thru the motions of cleaning up the PC, I had heaps of files in %temp% and just set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters/IRPStackSize to 16....

Hopefully it''ll get me thru, but if all else fails I'll reinstall Windows... if I do it'll be the first time since I built it back in June 2017!

Potentially looks like a driver issue based on that love2d screenie?

Just because there's no way in hell your GTX 1080 doesn't support Open GL 2.1 or ES 2 I'd attempt uninstalling, rebooting, and then re-installing the GPU drivers before re-installing windows.

It isnt constant either, 8 / 10 times it will work fine... yeah I'll see if reinstalling the GPU drivers help

Just rebooted after a memory check:

That sounds pretty specific..

I guess it's a case of checking each RAM module individually then?

After a few hours of annoying testing, I've (hope) isolated the memory module... First one over 20 years I've had one fail on me.

Now do I upgrade to 32GB (dual channel) or keep the 8GB which seems alright now and up it to 40GB?

Also the joys of going thru the mobo QVL of memory manufacturers...

I know that people say it's ok to mix+match memory, nowadays, but I'm still stuck in the 90's mindset that all the ram modules oughta be the same type.

Yeah I'm the same Jay, also I think it might hurt performance a bit too.

Since my board is pretty old now (4 years), the ASUS QVL really only shows discontinued products.

Would this be compatible?

Corsair is normally compatible with a lot so I dont think it matters too much, but normally I like to get what's on the QVL list

I'm sure Windows will fill it up all by it's self

A long way from the 64 KB RAM I had in the 'strad...
