Need advice. We bought two brand new TVs 6 years ago before I moved down here. They are still new in the box, never been opened. One is a Samsung and the bigger one is a Hitachi. Will they still be okay (if I ccan get to them) or should I just buy a new TV?

A Telly's a telly, isn't it? The only "big" thing would be the resolution. I presume they're both HD. do you need more than that?!

Otherwise it's a case of buying the right dongles for it. A cheap-tastic Google Chromecast will likely allow you to do pretty much anything you'd need with it. (Though, I'd be wary of anything inadvertently soaking up your limited monthly broadband allowance)

Do you have any free-to-air terrestrial TV over there?!

Both are FHD (do not want higher than that) and although both can play things off of a flash drive, they are not smart TVs, at least I do not think so.

Was more thinking capacitors may have dried out and such.

I will be hooking an antenna to it, as well as my bluray player. Otherwise I can plug the laptop into it and watch Prime. Really only want to watch the western channel and a couple of Christian channels.

I would like to think a tv's built to last more than 6 years, but.. I guess there's no guarantee for that..

6 years for a tv is not that old. My current one is 10 years old. I have a chromecast for it.The ps3 is also working for dvd's. Though I have not turned it on this year yet.

I discovered yesterday at my moms place that There was a brightness setting. It was difficult to see the image when there was light shining on it. I can not imagine why I had not though to look at that setting. There are like a million menu options in that smart tv though

I would go and get them and either use them and sell them / use them and keep them. They're probably going to be fine though I'd have thought the caps tend to last more than 6 years, my old PC from 2013 for comparison, still works a treat, as does the NES, SNES, Atari, etc.
