thank you

everybody,

I would be doing more 3d game progamming
and especially of animations and cut scenes
like my Xeon, Geisha Girl, Anubis, and especially
Wolfie. I was even working on a animation sequence
of John McClane-->Die Hard starring Bruce Willis
Yet and as I told some friends of mine the assembly
bug has bitten me. The 6502 bug.
I'm back into retro app and game programming in 6502 assembly language.

Yet, I plan to slowly get back into 3d programming and my animations with Blitz 3d in a few months. Hopefully and by that time Cobra 3d and/or Nuclear Basic will be out.

Ok we are going a little ot, but I am really interested: what program did you used to create Wolfie? He was amazing

I used Blitz 3d

I don't think its off topic by the way.
Cause animations, logos, banners, game menus, cut scenes
can be and are part of a 3d game.
For example a game menu can be strictly 2d, 3d, or even
a combo of 2d/3d within the context of a 3d game. Also,
I like those movie intros and cut scenes in 3d games to carry the story and plot(any subplots) along.
Also, the game over..game Win/Lose scene..if any.

I'm interested in these aspects of a 3d game and of animations and 3d game programming.

new editey: by the way ingenium1, it took me over 10 hours alone to sync the howl to his howling sequence.
Not just the mechanics but to provide and set certain moods for the user/viewer.
I was going to take Wolfie further....a dark forest landscape or background scene and with a full lit bright moon in the night sky.
A bigger but zoomed out view of him. And then have him turn around and jump on all fours and go back to his normal idle stance/sequence
Then have him stare at you for a few seconds...then howl at you a few times. woa!!! I want a scary and dark moody effect. Even show his claws and bear his teeth.

oh man!.....really cool design and effect I have planned.
Makes me wanna go back to animations now.

Yo, just lurking.

Reading stuff. Ya know.

So I actually have very little to contribute to this thread in terms of helpful info.

But for crying out loud abc goes on and on o.0

If the owner of this badge continues to quarrel with their schoolmates, they too will be banned.

Last chance, you two..
I mean it.

Now get this topic back on topic, and stop your squabbling.

Ok...

I'd recommend looking at the language from the point of view of the 3D engine. Some 3D API's and engines are better supported for some languages then others. For example you wanna use DirectX? Use C++ (or C#). Wanna use XNA (or Managed DirectX)? Use C#.

There are lots of good 3D engines out there too, and these days you can use them (and most API's) with any popular language (so that rules out Blitz!). I'd just go googling for them.

I'd personally recommend C# with the XNA framework. I wouldn't recommend using OpenGL because it can be a little confusing because it's just a graphics API. DirectX and XNA contain a lot more libraries which makes it easier, like texture loaders, and these libraries are built specifically for use with DirectX and for games.

You can get similar libraries for use with OpenGL, but it's a case of for example using SDL with OpenGL, which sometimes can be really difficult depending on how good (or bad) the bindings are for the language you've picked. If you wanna look at OpenGL, I'd recommend Java. As the worlds most popular language it has lots of packages specifically for making games and supporting OpenGL which also contain things like texture loaders. Although you'd want to google for them as I'm pretty certain they don't come as standard with the Java API. Note, there is also a 3D API for Java, Java 3D.

.., too.
I would prefer to know what kind of guys i talk to on forums.
What i wrote is not a minor thing or a way to insult him, i just reported his thought, so to warn you about him.

What was not off topic, until he started getting angry.

Well, if ignoring what i wrote makes you happier, be happy.. but i wouldn't be that happy knowing that a guy on the forum i wrote on has such thoughts..

@DiablosDevil: So, you recommend C# and Java, if I understand well. However, in my opinion, C# is similar to Java. I agree with you about the OpenGl, it's a little bit confusing (I have read some Nene's tutorials ).
So: Java and C#, interesting . Anyone wants to suggest other languages?
P.s. I have never used XNA framework *googles XNA framework*

Is Ingenium banned too? At least in his last post he was trying to participate in the topic and ignore abc.

Anywho, I wouldn't say OpenGL itself is more or less confusing then DirectX. It's more that everything you need from the library is in DirectX. Controls, graphics, certain loading functions, audio, I believe even some stuff for networking. Although most can be used on their own and with a game using OpenGL, these are also designed to be used together. Where as OpenGL and SDL were not exclusively designed to be used together, and so you can sometimes get problems.

Saying that, Quake 4 used SDL and OpenGL. But then again, it is Quake 4. Maybe that isn't a compliment.

hey Diablos,

I agree with you.
And I find your discussions interesting
and informative.
In another place and time....I would follow up
and talk with you more about them and especially cause
my alter-ego on another board is more serious and less
fun-loving and verbose.
Yet, over here I'm the power mousey.

on the other hand, I'm still doing my 6502 assembly language. However, I'm back on 3d and animations.
And of all languages that I'm using I'm back to Mother.
The Mother harlot of all Basics...Dark Basic.
The main reason being I have this Dark Matter pack of all these models and they either don't load nor work properly in Blitz 3d. So, I'm going to use them in DB and then DBPRO.

cheers

AFAIK, MDX is currently unsupported for C# in favour of XNA. Of course you can use the old version(s), but you probably won't get any official support from Microsoft in any way.

actually last i checked managed DX was part of .NET which is what MS is pushing to be used with C#
