Have you tried flirting with a stranger online?

That is how I met my deceased wife, and my current wife. To find two wonderful women to share your life with in such a way... I am truly blessed.

Question of the Day : May 26th

What was your favourite School subject?

Can't choose just the one to be honest.

Art, Maths I.T. and Design & Technology were my faves

Maths was my favourite, so much so that when moving over to A-Level it was the one subject I absolutely looked forward to getting to do!
"Higher level maths! What could be better?!"

What a bitter, horrible, pathetic disappointment.
Maths at A-Level isn't "Let's figure shit out!"
Instead, Maths at A-Level is "Here is a sheet of numbers, here is a question, look up the value on the chart that corresponds, then use this equation and give the result."

There was no "figuring it out"
It was all about charts and lookup-tables, and .. oh my god, it was so god-damned dull.
My Mathematical loving was ripped out of my beating heart, thrown on a table, smashed to pieces, then covered in lookup-tables.

We spent about 3 months "learning" how to use a lookup-table to do Standard Deviation. The fucking bane of my life that was. Lookup this, calculator that, give answer.
So dull. So monotonous. So un-maths like.

About 2 months into this hellhole, Business Studies introduced Standard Deviation, and my heart sank like a stone.
The Business Studies teacher wrote a SINGLE, SIMPLE math equation on the board.
...That gave the right answer.
No lookup tables.
No nothing.
Just maths.

That, right there, was the day I flunked out of Maths A-Level.
That was the day that my head went "Well, then, what the fuck are the maths teachers doing!?!"
That was the day I realised I didn't hate Maths. I just really fucking hated A-Level Maths.

Aye, I remember A-Level Maths being bit of a mare also, that and A/S level Further Maths. I just didn't have the patience to do the full Further Maths course.

Design and Technology was a nice mix of everything though, enjoyed that one a lot.

Physics not so much, we weren't given many practical bits so it was tougher to get my head around a lot of things.

Question of the Day : May 27th

Which family traditions have been forgotten, that you'd like to revive?

The Festive Board Game.
It's only Me and Mum in the house, now. Sister hasn't been here over Xmas since Covid, and whenever my Uncle and Aunt do their annual visit with their kids, we nowadays spend time playing video games. VR was last year's big thing, with everyone having a play at Synth Riders and Beat Saber.

.. And yet, the loss of the annual board game is still felt.
We got some of those quiz-card things, this year, and played a few rounds, but it just wasn't as much fun.
Nope, that's a tradition that's probably not going to be happening again.
A shame.

On my "Post-Op" todo list is "visit the Meccano bridge"
I haven't done that yet.
That's as adventurous as it gets, I'm afraid..

Question of the Day : May 31st

What's the dumbest thing you've ever done whilst drunk?
Wed, 31 May 2023, 01:56
Jayenkai
One Xmas, I got so drunk on Baileys that I fell asleep instead of coding all night.
Fuxake, what's that about!?

My intention was to kill off QOTD, today, but I can't think of anything to replace it, and I haven't yet set up anything else for a June thread (Like the photo/art/poke ones), so .. Instead I'm going to leave QOTD running for June, and try to come up with something else for July instead.
Suggestions are sorely welcome. My brain is mush.

I can't remember but apparently I tried to jump off a boat whilst drunk at around 19 years old. Yeah, silly boy!
