Question of the Day : November 1st

If you could create a computer virus, what mischievous antics would it perform?

Nothing, for 3-5 years, then switch bytes around on the drive randomly, as well as filenames. Starting with sectors further along the drive so it's not as noticable a first until it's too late. The delay time allows the program to be spread over the internet before it activates it's payload.

It would post two question of the days every so often, so as to confound and confuse the admin.

Have it display all text in Klingon.

Back in the early 90s, I worked on a friends 286 and put one of the joke programs on it that would make the display be upside down. I figured I would get a call from him and tell him how to fix it, but the next time I went over to his house, he had the monitor sitting upside down on a cinder block on his desk.

Mine would sit on your hdd and 'travel' from folder to folder checking how long since a file was last opened, create a nice list of files that hadn't been used in a while and politly ask you if you still need them, if not they'd be deleted. It would have a nice small graphic window with some sort of cartoon person/animal and would only pop up maybe once per day.

Check out my excellent homepage!

No, Spinal.. No! You deleting old files and then realising you need them 6 months later, is 95% of your development woes!!!

Question of the Day : November 2nd

What would be the consequences of a computerised weatherman that always gets the forecast wrong?
Thu, 02 Nov 2023, 02:43
cyangames
Eventually they'd get it right and there would be a great celebration

Yeah, but we'd never forgive the computers for getting it wrong, even if only once.. Just ask Michael Fish.

You could permanently pull the plug on them, unlike the human weatherman who always gets it wrong.

Question of the Day : November 3rd

What's the last meal you ate?

Jayenkai
We had Rump Steak and chips, yesterday. Our local Premier (convenience) store has a nice selection of meats in their fridge, but not much in the way of fruit and veg, so we'll have to rely on online ordering for that, I reckon.

Homemade chicken curry, it was spicy, nice thick sauce but I should have added some sweetness to it. I might have some more now thinking about it.

Question of the Day : November 4th

If computers could time travel, which historical event would they be most helpful in preventing?
Sat, 04 Nov 2023, 03:03
Pakz
It already happened?
Sat, 04 Nov 2023, 03:08
Jayenkai
This is about computers, not us. What would the computers do...?

...They'd probably try to stop anyone called John Conner from being born.

I was thinking the worst had already been prevented by the computers of the future. They might already stopped John Conner from being born

They would prevent computers from being invented in the first place.
