New Year Resolutions - 2021

What are your plans and promises for the year ahead?

Mine are...

1. Rewrite the touchscreen controller code for Browsercade. .. Again..

2. Daily sugar-level, blood pressure tests. I currently try to do these daily, but weekends have gaps.. Mostly because I usually do them whilst watching The Chase, so when that's not on, I'm stuffed!!

3. Lose a bit of weight.

4. Get out more. Short walks around the street, much more often. I'm currently averaging one a month, and that's not good!!!

No plans - whenever I make a plan, something fucks it up.

I would, however, like to lose a bit of weight and get back to coding. I don't recall having coded anything in two years now

Actually turn on a console that's not the Switch. I've not played a console game since the Switch came out (March 2017). How many hours of updates do you think I'll have to download? :/

Well, I hope to be in a new home next year. I hope to find one with good isolation. Heating is so expensive. The last home I checked had a class d. Class a++ is the best isolated. Last month I checked a flat that had a A level, but this was next to the main street to the hospital. Lots of sirenes all day long. I have until march 2022 to find something when the renovation starts.

I also hope to write more music than this year. Hoping to get better at it. I wrote almost 50 short songs. Edit: creating a song takes me up to 10 hours. The last one took almost 5 hours to finish.

Further more pixel art practise and coding and trying to do lots of sports.

No plans too. Haven't made the habit of making resolutions for a new year.

There are few things which i'm already doing, and this will continue.

...

But ...

pretending that i would make some resolutions, the list would look like:

1. To reach my ideal weight. (which is 75 ish kg, atm 88)
2. To Play/Replay the now 'retro' Games.
3. More of the Lucid Dream/Oobe's

and few more things.

1. Make it through the New Year
2. Make and release a god damn game again.
3. Reduce the number of spontaneous purchases I make.
4. Get stronger and fitter.

LOL!

A year or so ago, I did ask whether you wanted your username changed. That's still (mostly*) easily doable should you feel the need. I think I've been mostly sticking to just Hobo lately. .. I think!!!

(* the way private messages currently work might require extra tweaking, but should be doable via a little database hacking)

@HoboBen. Hope it all works out well for you, life changing stuff!

I had the kids over for 3 days over Christmas so I now need to add a bunch of extras to my list, including....

5. Save up enough money to take me and the kids to Super Nintendo Land in America
6. Be benching at least 40kg by 40 years old

I need to set myself up a better structure for my days also, tomorrow will be the cleansing and planning process I think.

Not sure how long it'll take for SNL to arrive in America... But then, maybe they've already half done it by now, whilst no-one was watching..??
also, just realised that its acronym is SNL?.!

It's been a slow start over here also Jay, I know you can do it! I'm finally making some progress after a slow start to the year.

Day one - Make some actual plans, schedule 'n' stuff.

Day two - Got the day with Triston, all is good in the world, actually watched something on netflix for the first time in agesssss with him, some sorta laternative dimension spiderman thing, it was nice!

Day three - Sorted the house out a bunch, batch cooked the curry for the week, did 3 sets of 25kg benches which seemed safe, will up the weights during the week to see where I'm at. Sat down to do some coding with Chloe next to me who's either distracting or encouraging, I'm not sure yet, got some cheapshow on the background also

|update| Seems like she's helped out a bit with the ol motivation, got the transitions back from the single stage select working tonight which was the main aim. Yay! |update|

New Years Resolution is to lose some weight. Tried several different diets in the past to no avail. Found something called Intermittent fasting before Christmas for a week and found it really eye opening. Dropped a few pounds before xmas and managed to keep it off over the holidays. Jan 1st was my final 'Eating normally' day, and I started fasting for 24 hour slots since then. I have one meal per day, and I've since introduced keto to the mix when I do eat.

Dropped from 18st 13lb to 18st 2lb, so we'll see where it goes!!

I don't do resolutions as such, but I would like to lose a bit of weight (a theme here hehe). I lost 3 stone between Nov 2019 and Jan 2020, then put on 9 pounds this year (thanks to some fantastic home cooked meals and cakes - too many cakes) so I'd like to go down another stone to be in the green zone.

Coding wise I've really enjoyed getting into Turbo Rascal the last couple of years. Something I have been trying to do fo a long time (as in, find an interest in coding again since Remakes died down). For me it is the Vic 20 support, my first computer and being able to write seriously for it without too much effort has been a blast. I've made four games so far and into a fifth. (I still have blockman gets 20 on the list todo). Helped Nicolaas to build up the Vic 20 support and have extended TRSE quite a bit, the largest single feature being a really powerful 'bitmap' mode bringing s/w sprites, bitmaps, etc to this little machine. Nothing new as such, this 'feature' was used way back at the start by the masters such as Andy Finkel (Omega Race) but it is so much more accessible and complete ready to use.

In particular I've really enjoyed learning how the Vic 20 works at the lowest level and how to make the most of it far beyond what I understood back in the day.

Lot's of support for other computers now for anyone that wants to help expand TRSE's support for them further. For example, Ian, have you seen the Amstrad CPC support? Early days still, but Nicolaas has made a complete demo and everything works - just needs refining. I want to do something with the CPC eventually but not finished on the Vic just yet

Other than those two things, just holding hope for a better future. Hope that people will be less greedy, less self centred, less inward facing ... hoping for a better future for my kids. Things feel really screwed up in recent years and it has been eye-opening to see how some people really think and behave. Well not everyone, there are plenty of people that are not like that. I guess recent Trump times has just made some people more open about what they really are.

Ah, what a downer, sorry. To end on a totally more positive note, Mrs Hewco has baked a lovelly Lemon Drizzle Cake and I think I might have another slice with lunch ... ah well, diet can start tomorrow

Sorted out a few more glitches in the single stage mode with flap happy tonight. Just need to fix that ending sequence and set the tougher difficulty levels....then it's done!....Finally!!!

6,815 bytes remain, this is probably about 6,000 more than I'll need, I hope!

Managed 3 sets at 27.5kg tonight but really struggled on the last 3 lifts / pushes on set 3. Will see what tomorrow brings, hopefully a better sleeping pattern than last night!

I have written a remix for every day of this year! 5 days in a row. If I keep this up until the end of the month I will have done more than all last year combined. Hoping to make being productive a habbit.
