Game needs testing...

I usually don't post my games early, but I've been pissing about with Bass.dll, and just wanted to be 100% sure this all works before I end up spending all weekend on the thing, and then have it crap out on everyones systems!

I'm off to work, and thought I'd leave you all with a little test proggy. (/almost finished game!)

Give it a whirl, let me know if it does indeed work right, (at all!!) and let me know of any bugfixes.

Ta muchly!

Seems to work.

Damn, that's a nice concept!

Works ok.
Now I'm probably gonna be branded as one of those evil players who don't like your game (sigh) - but you need to make sure that the blocks can be turned in the right directions a few seconds after they've landed.
Also - USE XA! (I know, I know - I'm gonna make a converter once my game is finished)

All works fine for me. And a great game that is too!

Ran perfectly, crashed when I closed the window (just stopped responding and did nothing).

Really nice concept and I felt quite under pressure whilst playing. It felt a little like playing normal Tetris but with someone annoying trying to disrupt your game. I really liked how the graphics change style, but this should happen earlier (cos it's impressive).

A final note on the title screen, when you click to enter your name it should delete the default name for you. Plus add a little flashing cursor when editing it. Both trivial but would make it feel more slick. Still a vast improvement over the old titles!

Nope, I'm going to ignore that comment.
I got it as close to Gameboy tetris as I could, and that don't spin after a land.
The "Spin after a land", and "Spin round and round and round on the spot, never actually moving down" things are shitty "New-Age" tetris rules that have made it impossible for me to buy a decent tetris game.
The last tetris game I bought (*) was Tetris DX on the Gameboy Color.

* I bought Tetris DS, I took it back 3 hours later.

The graphics change every level-up, and in Gameboy Tetris rules, that's every 10 lines. Not gonna be changing that!

However, if you do get a Tetris, the walls rebuild, so look out for that!
I've added functionality for "Faster Background" (hit Backspace) but forgot to add the "When you get a line, Make background go Weeee!"
d'oh!

Titlescreen. .. umm.. The delete key's super-quick so will delete the name in a split second, and after that my games will keep your name, so that's not really something to whinge about!
I'll fix it, but I'm also going to have to completely redo the highscores for this anyway, so as to take into account multiple players, different names, and all the different gamemodes, and level selections and things.
Loads more to do, and pretty much just a day and a half to do it!
*phew*

It oughta be done in time! The bulk's working!

Oh, and yeah, it crashes.. There should be a "use escape, not the button! -->" notice on the titlebar, but it kinda depends on what font you're using for titlebars!
That's a case of Blitz not having any way to close Bass.dll before it Close-button closes.
I would've used a system dll to remove the [x] altogether, but.. I kinda figured the differences between XP, Vista, and 7 would probably break that, anyway!!

..
But otherwise working, right!?

HideCloseButton.dll. Works on Windows 7 at least, and I'd be very surprised if it didn't work on previous versions too.

I also like this game; the changing visuals are great and the sound effects are nice. I do have some complaints though. It is incredibly annoying that I can't see the whole block when it has appeared, but rather only the bottom-most row of it, making it impossible to instantly discern what kind of block it is. I also thought that the little ball bouncing about would destroy my current block if they touched, which I later found out wasn't the case. You should probably clarify that part.

The classic Tetris graphics surprised me for a moment. I thought that, this being a WIP, the white squares were the only graphics you had. Peeking through the data folder, I see that there are many more themes though. Perhaps when the final version is out I'll play the game enough to experience them all.

One thing which puzzles me is, what do you need Bass.dll for? Seems to me that you're not using any advanced audio features, but I'm probably missing something.

The bottom most row thing is, again, a throwback to gameboy tetris. That's how they popped up! It's a little annoying, but with the Next there, it does indeed help quite a lot.
(Gameboy tetris, and this, only have 18 playable rows. The top-block appears above that, so only a bit of it shows)

The themes are working out nicely. If anyone wants to submit one before Monday night, see enclosed files, copy, rinse, repeat!

Bass.dll, for a couple of reasons.
1. If you keep restarting mods over and over and over and over again, Blitz seems to crash. Not sure what that's all about, it seems to have started when I (as is always the case) updated B3D. To overcome it, I've opted to use Bass.dll

2. Bass gives me a couple of nice new options in my music. I can jump around inside a mod, so.. let's assume the mod contained "Title, Level Select, Ingame, Near the Top, Highscore" repeating melodies, all inside one neat little mod.. Well, then I could jump inside it, to wherever I need to be at the time.
Oldskool Mod access! wootsocks!

Obviously, unless I can be arsed doing all that music within the next couple of days, that's not going to happen here! But it's nice that I have that option in the future!

As for the block/ball thing.. I might leave that as an option, or something. I was planning to have it happen, but I've been off/on the idea all day. Not sure, so.. options are my best bet, I reckon!

Oh, yeah, and AppTitle's 2nd parameter displays a requester, which I thought just had "OK", but turns out it has "OK/Cancel".. I've opted to throw up a little "Cancel this, then press escape to quit, instead" type message, which does the trick nicely. (and hopefully without borking on other versions of windows!)

Works great, very gameboyish (which was of course the only good version of tetris ever). The controls are nice, the pong thing sounded weird at first, but it turns out to be both a blessing and a curse at the same time, brilliant!!
As for the [X] button not working, there was and old trick for that, maybe it will work here. Just stick a "Delay 2" in the main loop, this usually does the trick.
