Socoder -> Question of the Day -> QOTD : Reading...

I haven't read anything in ages..
I've got a bunch of books on my desk, right by my keyboard.. They're from Xmas.. And still unread.
I've also got my Battle Royale book that I've not read either.

A growing pile of unread stuff..
Can't be good!

..
QOTD : What have / haven't you read lately?

Is that Battle Royal the novel or the anime? I've read the novel and although it took me 6 months it's an awesome read. I'd highly recommend you opening it.

I got up to about page 10, and then put it down.. Haven't yet gotten around to picking it up again! Time seems to be lacking, somehow.
It's the novel.

In the last month or so I have read 1. The New Face of Baseball, 2. The Last Jihad, 3. Final Dawn Over Jerusalem, 4. Day of Deception. I read quite often as you can see.

Ok, this is getting quite old now, but what the hey.
As some of you might already know I've started reading The Game (finished) and Rules Of The Game.
Those two books have set me on a path to a vast body of untapped knowledge, and thus I just ordered these books for myself for Christmas.

The Cube: Keep The Secret by Annie Gottlieb

Never Be Lied to Again: How to Get the Truth In 5 Minutes Or Less In Any Conversation Or Situation by David J. Lieberman

How to Succeed with Women by Ron Louis

The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle

Edit: I'm also getting this book during the Christmas holidays.

That knowledge is untapped for a reason, Afr0.

Anyway, here's what I'm reading currently or have read recently.

Remains of the Day - Kazuo Ishiguro

Grendel- John Gardner (Possibly one of my favorite books)

The Forever War - Joe Haldeman

Into Thin Air - Jon Krakauer

There are a few more, but those are the most recent or current.

"Never Be Lied to Again"

That would be a cool read. To train yourself to note subtle facial expressions and movements would be a great skill, if not just something really fun to do to people.

Afr0 - do you intend to go through life trying to trick people into doing things?

Since I've read that this morning it's been really playing on my mind. Why and when would someone lie to you?

It's not really so much about being paranoid as it is about learning a practical skill. If my memory serves me correctly, Style used his ability to detect lies when picking up Britney Spears.
Chicks dig games. Simple. If you say that you can tell when she's lying, she wants you to prove it. And when you can, that's a major DHV (Displaying Higher Value) spike!

I don't really read books.

I like reading web design related how-to articles on the Internet though.

I'm currently reading Sons by Pearl S. Buck for something like the fifth or sixth time- I lost count. It's one of my favorite books though, and I can go back to it and usually find something new each time.

Afr0, you're just being creepy. |edit| You also replied to this after it was almost a month old. So did I, but by then conversation was started. Was this just so you could parade around your game cult crap? |edit|

Half way through Game Scripting Mastery.

It's got nothing a few computer science courses wouldn't do a better job teaching, but it'll keep me going until I'm well enough to take any.

Noel: I'm making an honest attempt to change myself to the better, and found out I'd recommend a few books for people interested in doing the same thing. It's that simple.
And no, I'm not creepy. Women don't like creepy men.

I personally thought that was a great book, just because it's a very interesting subject and the author maintains an interesting personality considering the subject matter is technical enough to dull the senses. Lots of good information in it.

Oh I do agree that it is an amazing book. I just re-read my post and realised that I didn't sound too enthusiastic - I really am enjoying it. It's very easy to read and understand and definitely contains everything I need for the moment.

If anyone wants to get hold of a copy, it's slightly cheaper on Abebooks.co.uk right now. I think it's no longer in print so it's very expensive but if you're interested in the subject of compilers and scripting it's worth it.

School form prize. The book has 20 (I think) different situation-based mathematical problems that are quite complicated, and goes through how they could be solved - one of these is 'How to cut a cake'. The cake problem is to do with how to 'fairly' split a cake between a number of people. With 2 people, it's easy: one cuts, the other chooses. But what if you have more? Then it gets interesting.

I'm not reading anything right now, but the last book I read was K-Pax 4, Not as good as the 1st book, but it's nice that the story is continuing.
