JL235	apparently in the 1990s laserdisc was the most popular format for video rentals. Given the great quality at the time, I can see why.

JL235	Wikipedia says laser disc, I suspect that most people renting were quite rich. Also bear in mind this is just rentals, not purchases.

steve_ancell	I think the siaz of the things was enough to put people off, and the machine that played them was twice the size of a VHS recorder!. \|edit\| That was the size during the 1980's, I don't know if they shrank over the next few years. \|edit\|

That happens now with DVDs, they still sell and rent out shed loads. \|edit\| It was also easy to pirate VHS and BETA-MAX, but I still knew loads of people that hired them from Blockbuster-Video. \|edit\|
