I was thinking of getting a laptop cooling pad. What is the warranty on yours? The one I was waiting for the next sale is a GearHead. those have a lifetime warranty.

3 years limited warranty from Microsoft.

It's really good though, down from 65C to 45C under load, 40C idle.

I just bought a cheap lap-tray as my laptop was literally burning my legs!

Microsoft PC products are generally excellent, especially their massive keyboards.

My laptop usually sits on a desk these days, no overheating problems at all I used to use a wedge made out of a SNES box a while back, mainly to get the angle right when sitting in bed.

We used to use a cake rack for cooling one of our laptops.

I keep it on the desk, but it's five years old and despite opening it up and cleaning it, it's not as cool as it used to be.

Could probably do with new thermal paste on the CPU, but the cooling pad will do for now.

Got to say though, ext4/linux gives me such good disk performance that this five year old hardware can still hold its own.
