Youtube new terms of service

Better to have a local copy of important videos uploaded to youtube. Check Linkage
I am not sure if it is a correct interpretation of the terms of service.

They discussed it on this week's Linus WAN show

Skip to about 34 minutes in.
Linus seems to be under the impression that it's to help ban people when they upload a ton of private (usually copyright) videos for themselves, instead of shared videos for the public.
Hopefully he's right..

If that's true then YouTube has just committed suicide.

I know the COPPA and FTC rulings have affected the content creators needlessly (YouTube had an option to create a third tier for ALL consumers, rather than "Made for Kids" or "Not Made for kids" and didn't (allegedly due to potential loss of earnings), but they of course want ALL THE MONEEEEZ, so in all honesty this approach wouldn't surprise me.

Could this lead to YouTube becoming purely subscription based?

FYI : JangBricks has posted a second COPPA video. https://youtu.be/F4ivd64jMaA

I watched the first, but haven;t seen the second yet.

YouTube fucked everybody up the arse with their advertising to, and data collection from kids, and are now penalizing content creators. Content creators are obviously pissed and considering their future.

Watched now. I love Jang and his content (as a huge AFOL) and he's clarified that it is in fact still YouTube who are the numb and dumb fucks in this whole shitstorm.

I'm pretty sure that a new content streaming service, with a more cinema-style age rating system will appear, where targeted ads (based on age of users) and monetize content (again, based on users) will be accepted. YouTube will then be right, royally fucked. Fingers crossed.

On the ipad I keep getting those windows asking me to subscribe for added features or keep using the free version. Sometimes I get adds again when I watched only a few seconds and chose a new video to watch.

Not sure what is going on with the "for kids" thing. I had that email but have not found any options to set my video's to adult mode yet.

It's there in the Channel Vide options. I put all mine down to "For Kids" I've only got a few and nobody watches them anyway.

Go into your videos -

Click on any video and scroll past the thumbnails. There's an "Audience" section with two radio buttons "Made For Kids" and "No, it's not made for kids" choose which you want the vid to be set to.

Ok, I found a set all video's to audience. I chose for adult to all just to be sure that things like video's with the rectangles as zombies would not clash with it. Luckely I did not have to set every video individually. I have hundreds!

Hard to find, but a "Channel Wide" option is there..
Go to Studio.Youtube.com and on the bottom left is a Settings. From there, click Channel, then Advanced Settings. In there is the channel-wide Made for Kids option.

I've set mine to Made For Kids. Apparently pretty much anything game related is going to be expected to be Made For Kids.

Yeah. I should have mentioned that, but he might still have wanted to change individual vids.
Mon, 25 Nov 2019, 13:17
I'm not 100% sure if you can change individual ones AFTER switching that on.
The option still seems to be there in the uploads, but.. Whether it makes any difference..?! Honestly, who knows, at this point!!

Each vid is changeable even after using the master setting. You can change any setting at any time (at the moment, anyway).

Every vid has been automatically assessed and rated by Youtube and set to what it thinks it should be. You can override that setting (if you wish). All vids have an added reference as to whether it was set by YouTube or the content creator.

There's always vimeo / bitchute.

Although I can't get the right settings to upload to bitchute correctly yet, which is rather frustrating.

Web / Game Dev, occasionally finishes off coding games also!

Vimeo used to have a "no trailers allowed" rule.
When TeamOUYA asked me to upload trailers to Vimeo, I was quite perplexed, but Vimeo never whinged about it.
Maybe they'd already removed that restriction..?

I dunno..

Now I'm tempted to install an add-blocked just to MOCK YouTube....
Well I was wondering how the amount of server space for all those videos was being paid for, so I guess Google was quite in a fix here.

But indeed, when they start deleting all those low-visited videos, they can basically upset 99% of their users, who are also the ones watching the videos of others that DO pay money, so in that point of view what Google is doing *is* kinda dangerous. But I guess that this is also a bit of the result laws getting stricter on information collection, which is how Google gets its money, and other free video platforms may suffer soon in a similar way.

But was it first Microsoft who treated their own customers and users like garbage, making one stupid move after another (getting away with it for a long time), I guess it's now Google and Apple.

Hmmm, terminating my Google account also, eh? Crap, I do have a gmail address.... I guess I may need to see what other good alternatives there are for e-mail then... I guess this new policy will reduce the number of gmail users drastically.
