Socoder -> Off Topic -> Spending...

Mon, 25 Jan 2021, 09:06

Last Night
The water bill doesn't get paid in Jan and Feb. It's split over 10 months, not 12.
Woohoo. Bonus spending!!!

This morning
The microwave started literally sparking..

Every fucking time!!

Yay, and also, ohhh Bums. Thankfully Microwaves aren't too expensive, have had mine for a couple years, done well for £40 so far!

I'm relieved that I get a couple months break from council tax, gonna turn that into something. Haven't decided what though. Possibly shares, maybe precious metals or a replacement NES, who knows!

And so the drama continues..
Woke up to an email from Amazon. My dispatch date has been moved, and the microwave won't be dispatched until next Monday.
We can't cope without a microwave for a full week.. we could barely cope yesterday!!!

So, I hit the cancel button, then went to curry's pc world and ordered one from there with next day delivery.
Bit pricier, but .. it has a grill function, at least..

Ten minutes later..
"Unfortunately we weren't able to cancel the following item(s) from your order"

... ffs.. now I have to faff about doing a "return"..
quite why they can't cancel an item that isn't dispatched until Monday, though.. the fuck is that about??!

There shouldn't be any issue at all if its not dispatched yet, makes no sense.

I ordered a couple of books on amazon and the delivery dates were not correct at all. One book was set to be delivered a week later and it arrived after only one day of waiting.

My microwave has been doing service since 2000 now.

Right, so.. The Curry's Microwave arrived.
The microwave is quite lightweight, and slides around the worktop when you try to.. say.. open or close the door.
Not ideal.
Also, the touch-panel is actually a set of physical buttons hidden behind a sheet of plastic. And the buttons are bastard hard to push, meaning you push a button and the fucking microwave slides away.

God damnit..
What a bucket of shit.

We're going to wait for the other microwave to show up, next week, then decide which one will be heading back.

Perhaps the gods of Amazon knew...

Ha! We had our trusty microwave die about a year ago. We were skint at the time so we picked up one that reviewed well that was relatively inexpensive.

It works, and it got us out of a jam, but dayum if it isn't a bucket of crap.

Its crapness is summed up in this one point: it has a digital clock on it (because duh, microwave) THAT YOU CAN'T SET. There is zero ability to change the time beyond turning it on at 1am (the default starting time). Like, I couldn't believe it, so we went all the way to the manufacturer of it who assured us that no, "you can't set the clock in that model". DAFUQ?

So yeah, I feel your microwave pain.

Life's biggest obstacles are your greatest opportunities to excel.

Forever the twelve o'clock flasher!

Our microwave clock is digital and the numbers are unintelligible. Some of the lines that make up the numbers don't appear at all. It's a wild guess as to what the figures might be. It worked OK for six month and that was it. It's not even a cheap microwave

It's also got a capacitive touchscreen - my wfie can't operate it as she doesn't pump out enough volts!

So, you don't necessarily get what you pay for, especially since the cheap Daewoo one we had before was so much better than the one we have now (which is built in - was bought with a new kitchen).

Our microwave has been in the garage for 4 or 5 years now, one day it stopped heating, but the plate still span around. Never replaced it.

The End

Russel Hobbs for a microwave, Henry for a vacuum cleaner, and noone is ever unhappy

Henry's are rubbish! Had two at my old workplace. They didn't pick up particularly well and the bags were expensive to replace every five minutes.

Now, my old Dyson DC10.

Had that for donkeys years. It was great. Sadly Dyson stuff is terribly expensive and nowhere near as good as it was 15 years ago, as we found out later, once it sucked its last.

Having three dogs, the Dyson was the only vacuum cleaner that didn't die within six months due to masses of dog hair. The newer ones don't have the same power or ease of use. They feel flimsy as fuck too. And the hopper's don't hold as much either.

The Monday microwave unexpectedly arrived today.
About the same size, looks pretty similar, but DAMN is it heavier!
The buttons are infinitely more responsive, and this one manages to fit a bag of Uncle Ben's Microwave Rice in it properly, too!! (The previous one did not..)

So.. yeah, we're a LOT happier, with this one.

The crappy Kenwood will be heading back to CurrysPCWorld, with a note saying "bag of shite" on it.

Mum's decided we should give the Kenwood to my sister, who lives alone.
No idea how it's going to get all the way to Liverpool when we've no transport.

.. plus.. hey, hang on, am I now actually paying for two Microwaves?!
When did I agree to that!!?!?

Done my monthly "spends" now, ordered myself a lil external drive mounter as I kinda fancy going through my old hard drives to seewwhats on em, but can't be bothered to open up the PC each and every damn time!

LOL! Yup. Got one of those, way back when, for exactly the same reason

Backed up a ton of old shite onto the NAS drive, and it's been pretty much abandoned since, but.. Hey, at least I've got access to it, right!?!
