Yesterday the news reported that in england a more contagious variant was discovered. They wont allow planes from britain here anymore.

That covid 2 variant was found here in holland also. They might sharpen the rules here too.

The main issue is, there is no particular Covid 2. There's lots of different mutated Covid 1s, each unique in its own way.
Thankfully, they still seem (so far!) to be impacted by the vaccine. It as more of the vaccine gets out in the world, that may very well change..
Eek!

As Jay says, there are hundreds of variants of all the Covids and it is absolutely no surprise to anyone. Covid is like every other virus on earth - constantly mutating and evolving. That's why the flu vaccine is different every year. The virus adapsts, so does the vaccine. The Covid vaccine will likely be the same (if a long term vaccine is not possible, which is highly likely looking at the data)- something given every year now, but different based on the variant.

In november they had already discovered a couple of thousand variants. The news of this more spead able variant was new to me. It seemed it was already here in early december and might of been responsible for the increase in infections.

I have been stocking up some durable food this morning just in case. The more indepth news this morning has taken away some of the edge of this variant for me

Btw. Our national sinterklaas actor died of covid yesterday!

I think most of the reason for the delay in information is in the testing. They'd have to find people with the virus, get a sample of it, put it through magic microscopes (or whatever they do) and find out exactly how it's changed.. Then compare that to other samples, before deciding that.. Yes.. This version is spreading a little more rapidly.

All takes time, and effort, and it's not something that can be simply discovered overnight. .. Meanwhile, all the governments seem to be taking the "It'll all be fine!" approach, and only acting once things have already gotten much worse than they should've.

Fuxake..

The only thing they were looking for in early testing was positive or negative Covid results; strains/variants really didn't matter. They knew there were differences due to the way people were infected or were asymptomatic. Identifying specific variants always comes later.

Sister's staying put in Liverpool, not risking the trip for .. what.. a day, she'd be allowed?!
God damnit..
Mum was crying, today.
I'm lying awake at half two in the morning, unable to sleep, worried about my little sister being stuck alone at Xmas.

*sigh*

Can't wait for a vaccine.

I'm not in any way an anti-vaxxer but due to my own health conditions I worry a bit about having a brand new vaccine. Like the Swine Flu vaccine gave lots of young people incurable narcolepsy.

That's just a worry in my head.

But I'm still going to have it ASAP. Gotta balance the risks but getting the world back to normal is worth it

@Jay SoCoder poll idea. Yes/No would you take the COVID vaccine

Thankfully when viruses mutate they tend to become weaker which is some relief. Still, sending huggles to all xXx

If it's at the GP, then it's likely the AZ one. If it's in hospital it'll probably be the Pfizzy one - hospitals have freezers that can store it (<>-70°C), GPs don't (generally).

Just a word of warning - you might suffer from a really, really sore arm for a couple of days. So sore that you can't move it properly. Just saying...

Yep, my sister had it a couple of weeks ago. She's warned us of unexpected drowsiness, and also some motion sickness, which should make for a whole lot of fun for me!!!

We're getting stabbed at a local health centre. Not the village, but the local "got built about 5 years ago, looks quite fancy, and has a few treatment rooms" one.
Not quite sure where that stands on the scale of GP vs Hospital!!

Got the AZ!

Wasn't given a date for Stab2, just a general "in a couple of months".

Hope it works for you and your family

I've had the virus from early January. Like last year, it's taking a while to fully leave, possibly as last years was just... the worst flu I've ever had. Honestly, whatever version of Covid-19 I had, was a breeze in comparison.

Although this time around I was fully dosed up prior with suppliments to my diet which, from seeing how it affected my work colleagues, was likely a factor in reducing the symptoms, mostly Vitamin D, Zinc and Vitamin C every day.

I doubled the capsules up for the week when I was spending 16 hours asleep and only 8 hours awake. It's a little weird as I can still feel it's presence what...4 weeks later within me, it was oddly fun not having the sense of taste or smell for a while, it didn't fully leave so I tested myself out with globs of marmite and really spicy food. The oddest thing is, hot chocolate tasted of tea, and tea tasted of nothing.

Make sure that they don't forget your second shot, if they're getting further down the list of people now then here's hoping in a month or so this will all be just a truly terrible memory.

..oh my god...
Drained isn't the word.
If actual Covid is worse than this, then... fuck!!!

Brain fluid feels incredibly viscous, this morning, leading to "even just standing up = getting dizzy"
Throat's bone dry, even though I've already downed half my daily 1.5ltr Bolero drink.
Mum's still in bed. I heard her up in the night being sick, but by the time she'd exited the bathroom, I was already zonked out again.

... and today's Mum's birthday..!!.
