GET THE STRESS TEST!!!

It's that time of year again, when I ask everyone to give my little test proggy a go, and see what numbers they end up with.

This time, Platdude is spun around, and replicated to make a nice fancy looking box!
Ooh, luvly!

Let the program run, give it about a minute or so, and it'll close itself.


It runs through 24 sprite-limit tests, different sizes and colours, and then does the whole thing over again with a great big insane loop running in the middle to slow things down.
The values returned show the approximate number of sprites it can draw onscreen before it starts getting a wee bit too much for it.

Do the same with the alternate file (one's DX9, the other OpenGL) and you have two nice lots of data.

Once done, copy and paste your two lots of stats into the forum, and they'll be super useful for my ingame limits.

Oh, and one more thing. Don't tweak your settings to try and get a good score! Run it as you would any game.
This is not a competition, I'm testing the general limits of systems, so I want real-world stats.

On the whole, slight speedup with OpenGL, which is a slight surprise to me.
Cool stuff!

It's a shame that I'm going to have to place such small limits on things, though. ~2000 sprites seems pretty much the average, here.

Yeah, it's nothing bad... but we have some daily hospital visiting to do, which takes up a bit of time. In fairness, opening the laptop yesterday was probably a good idea, since I only finished setting things up (reinstalling and moving files from old laptop to new one) this morning, and haven't really had much time to use it until now.

Generally good, with a slight touch of not-so-great.
BlitzMax will (again) be limiting me to around about 2000 sprites onscreen at once.

It's not TOO bad, but since I can't really do much buffer-wise, it could be a bigger issue than it previously was.

No matter, Particles and other luvliness will be slumped into unimportant territory, and I'll come up with a sprite counter to limit things depending on the user's prefs.
