I still have a 5 pack of maggi - 3 minutes noodles - curry flavor. Never tried these before.

I like those instant spaghetti cups but they are pretty expensive.

Noodle Nine : End of the Line

Last Noodle of the current box, and it looks not entirely unlike a Muller Corner!

Very dry.
You have to strain it, and THEN add the freeze dry veggies, so they remain mostly uncooked, which is a strange experience. The bit of oil helps quite a lot, resulting in nicely slimy noodles, but there's still the occasional odd lump in it!
Also, since the noodles are strained, there's no drinky/slurpy bit at the end.

Flavour wise, I’m really not sure what it was meant to be. It certainly did taste salty and peppery, but other than that.. I’ve no idea what flavour it was aiming for!

Rating : 3/5. My mouth's all oily, Now..

So will you continue to subscribe? Has the experience been worth it?

The subscription was for 6 months. 4 more to go

Whether I continue after that, depends. But if I'm honest, even the rubbish ones have been interesting, and the range of flavours is definitely worth it.

However... They're apparently dropping the number of noodles from 9 to 8.. Grrr.. I blame Brexit!!

Another Box Begins!!

Cheat sheet : Side 1 : Side 2

ZenPop Ramen Pack averages £21 per month (Depending on subscription length). Each month contains a selection of Ramen with a vague theme, and a few oddballs along the way, too.
If you'd like to see the variety, look through this thread. There's quite a lot of different flavours each month.

Only 8 noodles per box, now, so we probably won't get a "Next Day, More Noodles" next month once it's finished, like we did this month
But otherwise, they've claimed that the noodles will be "Premium" noodles, from here onwards. I'm not really sure how you could tell, if I'm honest. Noodles are noodles!

If you'd like to subscribe to the Ramen Pack, you can do so here. They also have Sweets pack, and Stationary, but.. Nah, I'll stick with my noodles

Anyhoo, let's begin again!

The thicker Pot Noodle sort of noodle.
In fact, it kinda resembles... Hmmm..

Tastes Like...

During my college days, I used to buy the super cheap Morrison’s Own Brand Curry Pot Noodles, because they were a really odd flavour, and were quite nice.
They changed the recipe, though, and that made Jay a sad Jay, as the new ones just tasted like every other Curry Pot Noodle on the market.

Right now, I’ve gone back in time 20 years or so, as these taste almost EXACTLY how those used to taste.
Gorgeous!!

A thick curry sauce, chunky noodles, and a unique flavour that you really can't describe, other than saying "Like those Morrison's ones used to be!"

Big ok slab of ham/something, there on top!
There was also a pink and white swirly thing, but that got buried during the stirring!

Tastes Like

Smells very fishy.
*tastes the big slap of meat first*
Eeeuw.. I think that might be some kind of fish meat, like shark or something. Doesn’t taste ham or pork like, but then that might be the overwhelmingly fishy smell of it.

Other than that, it was surprisingly bland, and somewhat tasteless. Given the smell coming from it, that didn’t seem right. Perhaps all the seasoning and sauce was simply for the smell!?

Rating : 1/5 - Didn’t smell very good, and didn’t taste great, either.

Soup?

Tastes Like

The big slab of pork was very bacon'y. Nom nom!
The noodles themselves, although bathed in more soup'yness than is normal, are very tough and almost uncooked in texture. They’ve also not done much soaking up of the flavour, either, so you get that "bland noodle vs Soup" thing.
They’re not what I would call the "right noodles"...

The soup's nice, and reminds me of those Knorr Packet Soups.

Rating : 3/5 Tasty soup, shame about the noodles.

Yep, there's definitely seaweed in there!!

Tastes Like

Seaweed!
Yeah, quite a nice "soup" and the big green chunks aren’t horrendous for a change, although that might be down to my Irish blood loving seaweed.
The noodles, however, are the thin scraggly type that don’t soak up the flavour, and are kinda bland as a result.
Booo!
A shame, really.

Rating 3/5 - much like the vegetable soup one, last week, these noodles have been let down by the very noodles they claim to offer!!

Unsurprisingly fishy!
Rather salty, and the little pinky bits are extremely fishy, but overall it's not too fishy that it's inedible.
It's more like a fish cake strength of fishyness, than a battered fish strength.

The noodles themselves are rather thin, but have still managed to soak up quite a lot of flavour. Why can’t all the thin noodles do that?!

Rating 4/5 - Nowhere near as bad as I imagined.

Burnt wood!!
Not like a nice "smoked" smell, though.. More like a shit cheap plywood that you’ve accidentally set on fire!

Tastes Like...

Rather sweet.
The little hammy bits were quite nice, and there's barely any shrimp taste, but the whole thing has an almost sugary sweetness to it, which I’m not all that keen on.
Not getting the spice vibe, either.
Hmm.
The noodles are a medium thickness, and have soaked up quite a lot of flavour, but the flavour's a bit sweet for my palette.

Rating : 2/5 .. 2 sweet for me!

The soup is delicious, and is really full of flavour.
Unfortunately, the noodles don’t seem to be soaking up any of the flavour at all.
There's a few little bready chunks in there, which have definitely soaked in the flavour, but the noodles... not so much.
Still, there’s a lovely big slurpy drinky bit at the end!

Nom nom nom!!

Rating : 4/5 - Shame about the tasteless noodles.

“Curly noodles” are apparently Pot Noodle noodles!

Tastes like...

A very strong, and extremely salty, fishy taste. It's actually not too bad, and ends up tasting quite like that seaweed one from a few noodles-back..
It has feint sweet tasting bits, almost lemony, but the overriding sensation is that of the slimy gooey oil that was added at the end, and it's very very oily, and seems to be soaking on my tongue.
Not much taste to the oil, but my tongue's very tacky, right now!!

Rating 4/5 - OK, except for the oily thing...

Ooh, an authentic "Cup Noodle ... Nissin!!"

Very thin noodles. They're about 1/2 the width of a Pot Noodle noodle.

Tastes Like..

Not an awful lot of flavour to the soup. It's quite a bit more watery than I've gotten used to with these, but then I guess that's because it's a "diet" noodle..
*pats ever-growing stomach*
Me? Diet?! Bah!!

The thin flat noodles are at least soaking up the flavour, unlike those round thin noodles, but there's not an awful lot of flavour for them to soak up.
Instead, they've mostly just soaked up a bland tasteless watery taste.
Not that great, if I'm honest.

Rating : 2/5 - A tasteless start to box number 4.

A drowned noodle!

Tastes Like

The smell is quite strong. If I had to place the smell, I’d say it smells of Branston Pickle..!
The noodles are of the “waterproof” variety, so aren’t very flavourful, and don’t particularly feel properly cooked.
As for actual taste. They’ve got a weird tangy aftertaste, which I’m putting down to the Branston smell..

Rating : 1/5 - Pre-Op Jay's tastebuds probably would’ve enjoyed this more. Post-Op Jay's tastebuds aren’t so keen on the tanginess.
